2013 Work Christmas Party – Day at the Races

Last weekend the company I work for had a Christmas party at the races at Ellerslie Racecourse in Auckland. The sun was shining and the day was HOT!

I wore a sleeve-less white and black lace-patterned dress that I got from Sydney a few months ago (it was under $30AUD!) with Ann Taylor Perfect Pumps in Black Patent leather (my all time favorite and the most comfortable pumps I own, it matches everything!). I have no necklace or bracelets, I only wore my wedding band and a diamond ring my mother got me as a wedding gift. I also took myPrada Black Saffiano Double Zip tote with me. Nails are Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips in Laced Up.

Above: Before and after

For hair, I washed it the day before and before I used my curling tongs, I sprayed some heat protectant all over and spread it out with fingers and a hair brush. I then section my hair off in around 4cm bunches and wrap my hair around the curling iron outwards. Hold the hair for about 15 seconds then I remove the curling iron, then keeping the curl, I pin my hair up to let it cool (this really does make a difference to keep the curl). After all the hair is done, I do my makeup.

For my face, I used a paper mask from my Beauty Diary after washing my face long before I started doing my hair so my skin is hydrated and moist. After washing off the residue of the mask, I used Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair serum and Jurlique Rosewater hydrating mist to keep the moisture level up. So while I leave my hair to cool, I apply Maybelline Age Rewind Skin Transformer Primer all over my face, then I used my trusty Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Foundation and applied it with my fingertips (this foundation keeps my oily skin at bay and has great coverage!). I used Benefit Fake-up concealor under my eyes and blended it out with my fingers. For blush, I used the Loreal True Match superblendable blush to my cheeks and I used the Benefit High Beam on my cheek bones, brow bone and bridge of my nose.

For my eyes, I used ARTDECO eyeshadow base under my eye shadow, then I used a mixture of Champagne and Soda from the Shiseido Color Bar eyeshadow palette as a base colour, then I used the ARTDECO eye shadow in #12 as the main colour and then I used Busted from the Naked 2 palette at the outer edges of my eyes. My eyeliner was my favorite Dolly Wink liquid eyeliner in black as this will not run or melt even with my oily skin and the heat. I then curl my lashes and applied Red Cherry lashes in Demi-wispies (#DW) with no mascara. I then put Soda in the inner corners and under my eyes. I just filled in my brows as usual and applied a brow mascara from MAC.

I then finish everything with Rimmel Stay Matte powder all over to set the makeup and MAC Studio Fix+ spray to set everything down.

Now my hair has completely cooled down, I unpinned all the curls and used my fingers to loosen the curls. I then used a large hair brush to loosen the curls to my desired look. I then put on my elastic hairband over my forehead and arranged my hair around to perfect it. I then sprayed my hair with Sebastian Shine Define all over my curls (this spray gives a strong hold while giving my hair a fantastic shine), and I’m done! No need for more hairspray at all!

We had a great day with all my colleagues and my bosses are really cool. Everyone dressed up really nicely and everyone looked beautiful! My hubby was really worried about the heat with the suit and trousers so I told him to wear shorts and leather shoes which turned out perfect! Everyone was jealous of him and admired the style he’s got (it was my idea and I styled it for him with Karen walker suspenders)!

So Ben (my hubby) and I won best dressed award that day from everyone’s votes. The vote counter did tell me we won by far from the 2nd place! It’s worth me spending over an hour getting ready! Our bottles of Moet Chandon for best dressed!
