Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner

Where I got it : I got this from the goodie bag that was given to us at Benefit’s They’re Real Push-up Liner launch event. The international launch is on 27th June and New Zealand is the first to have it (due to time zone differences). You can get them from Smith & Caughey Queen Street (opens at 8am), New Market and Auckland International Airport for RRP NZD $45.00.

What I got : This is Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner (1.4g). The Push-up Liner features a twist off cap, a rubber tip with a dial at the bottom to dispense the product to the tip. At first I thought it was just a normal felt-tip eye liner with a funny shaped tip, but when I actually see it in action, the rubber tip (AccuFlex tip) actually has no product until you twist the dial and the soft gel-liner comes through from the hole in the rubber applicator! So the AccuFlex tip is actually an applicator for a soft gel-liner! The slanted tip makes the application so precise and easy to control without make a big mess!

From a consumer panel survey: 91% said it was longwearing, 81% said it was waterproof, 88% said it hugged the lashline, 84% said eyes looked visibly larger.

How I find it: I like to curl my lashes first before I do any eye makeup so that I won’t disturb my eye liner or eye shadow. When you twist it, you need to hear about 2 clicks to get a good amount of product to the tip – not to little, not too much. You can see the product coming out slightly from the tip. The gel liner is very pigmented and the formula is really soft and easy to draw. The AccuFlex tip is truly wonderful, it really gets close to my lashline and draws a really neat solid line.  Takes about 30 seconds to be dry enough to get on with the rest of my makeup, but to be 100% safe, I will let it dry for 1-2 minutes. I like to wear my eye liner with a long tail and a little downward pointing so that makes my eyes wider and more innocent. I would wear a winged out cat-line look for night time or when I feel like being a little flirty :> I am also recently sporting a short eye liner look where it stops at the end of my lashes and I draw a thicker line from the middle to the outer ends to create a more rounder eye look that is not too over the top. Either way, this eye liner can create whatever looks you want.

Overall: I love the control of this eye liner, its matte black finish and the longevity. After 11 hours of wear, the eye liner did not smudge to my lower eye area and did not transfer to my upper lid area. The wing is still looking the same as I have drawn it in the morning, but I do notice a little fading in the inner corners (probably because I have been scratching my eyes a little). I used the new They’re Real Eye Makeup Remover to remove the eye liner and the mascara (I’ve used the They’re Real Mascara in the image above as well) and it was a breeze (check out my review here). This gel liner is fabulous, it’s an innovative product and I can tell that people are going to love it. I have been loving liquid eye liners, but sometimes they can give you a glossy finish and can be a bit hard to control. This gel liner can create a sharp line or a softer line depending of what you prefer. Make sure you check it out when it is available at the counters – you won’t be disappointed!
