Hourglass Cosmetics Veil Translucent Setting Powder

Where I got it

My friend has been raving about this setting powder and all the Beauty gurus on YouTube have nothing but good things to say about it. This is a mini size one which is only available at the Mecca Maxim/Cosmetica stores. This retails for $28, which is not exactly cheap, but if you can’t afford a $73 setting powder (10.5g) and want to try before you commit, you can give this a go. I seldom finish a powder product so this would be something I will finish.

What I got

This is the mini size (2g) Hourglass Cosmetics Veil Translucent Setting Powder. From meccabeauty.co.nz: Adorn the skin with a sheer dusting of this ultra-refined, weightless finishing powder to instantly blur imperfections and set makeup in place for a flawless, airbrushed complexion that stands the test of time.

How I find it

The powder has a sight pale yellow colour and is ultra finely milled. The little sifter is also in an H shape just like the full sized jar.

You are supposed to use this as a setting powder to set foundation and concealer (ie baking). After my concealer and foundation, I would use a small fluffy brush to pick up the powder and tap under my eye area to set my under eye concealer. I would use a large fluffy brush to set my whole face.

I like to get the powder on the lid and then swirl my brush in it. I tip the lid on top of the brush and let the product kind of sink into the brush. Then I tap the brush all over my face so I don’t have concentrated areas of powder.

I have tired using a damp sponge to pick up the powder, but that would use a lot of product and if the sponge is too wet, the powder will get patchy.

Overall

Very high quality setting powder as I would expect from Hourglass. It is finely milled and does not add coverage or colour to my foundation of concealer. After setting, my face looks smooth and even, but not powdery or cakey. Sometimes I will use a setting spray, but it’s just to set the makeup, not because it looked way too powdery.

If you use an Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, I like to use it on top of this setting powder so it doesn’t dial down the lighting effect that powder gives. All my powder products like blush and highlighter, I would use after setting powder.
