Where I got it
After my first review of the Foreo UFO Smart Mask Treatment Device a few months ago, I received an email from the Foreo marketing team saying they would like to send me a couple of their devices to try, I was really over the moon. They sent over the BEAR and BEAR mini, the UFO mini as well as the LUNA mini 3 as well! I am so spoilt! I believe now I have a good range of their products to maybe do an informative post on all of their devices I own.
Foreo was first well known for their LUNA cleansing devices before they came up with UFO, BEAR and other products. Their LUNA cleansing device has gone a few upgrades and versions and it can be a little confusing as to which device does what and which one works best for you. Personally, this is my first Foreo LUNA so unfortunately, I cannot really comment on the efficacy, personal experience of the other devices.
Foreo devices can be purchased from many retailers like Meccabeauty.co.nz, Recreateyourself.co.nz, Farmers.co.nz. Also available from Foreo.com*. Pricing is around $245. *affiliated link.
What I got
This is the Foreo LUNA mini 3 Cleansing Device in the colour mint. It also comes in 5 different colours: Pearl Pink, Fuchsia, Mint, Sunflower Yellow and Midnight. Luna Mini 3 is an upgraded T-sonic facial cleansing massager with twelve adjustable massage intensities and a dual cleansing surface for a fully customizable skincare experience. The new Swedish design features a brand new Glow Boost mode, a large brush head, app connectivity, and softer, longer touchpoints. Add them up and you get one thing: a way better and way deeper cleanse.
The device uses T-sonic Cleansing with 8000 T-sonic pulsations per minute, it goes deep to remove 99.5% of dirt, oil, sweat and dead skin cells. The longer silicone touchpoints are 25% softer (than the original), so it gives a gentler cleanse.
The LUNA mini 3 comes in a clear, plastic case along with a little pink travel pouch, a 2ml sachet of the Serum Serum Serum, a charging cable, and a little information booklet. The device has a nice smooth, silicone touch that is easy to grip. The front has the Foreo logo and longer, smaller touchpoints, it extends further down compared to the ones at the back. The back has a charging port and larger touchpoints. There is a clear bottom part that lights up while charging and while the device is in Bluetooth pairing mode. The device is 80x78x38mm and weighs 87g.
Basic operation
Before you use the device, make sure it is fully charged and then registered on the app. The process is easy and the app has a step by step guide. Once the device is registered, you can start customising the cleansing time and intensity. Intensity levels can be customised for 4 different areas of the face: the forehead, two sides of the cheeks and the chin. Intensity level ranges between 1-12 and the default is set to 8. The time of cleansing can also be customised between 60 seconds to 120 seconds (this is the entire cleansing process, not each area). Once you click done, the customisation is set until the next time you change it. You can also customise the intensity and time for the Glow mode (double press the universal button). Glow mode is a quick cleansing mode that could go up to intensity level 16 for 30 seconds or more.
How I find it
To cleanse with the device, I remove my makeup with either a balm cleanser or an oil cleanser, then I pat dry my skin. I open up the Foreo app and turn the device on, put it under the tap. You can either apply the cleanser onto your face or onto the touchpoints and then start the cleansing program. There are no voice commands from the app like for the UFO device, but there is animation to indicate which area to move onto and the device pulses when it is time to change area. You start with the forehead, then move clockwise or anticlockwise, whichever way you like. The t-sonic pulsations were quite strong, but the silicone touchpoints were super gentle. I don’t need to rub or scrub with the device and I can feel a nice vibration massage all over my face. Depending on the type of cleanser I use, I don’t find too much dripping down, and there is a good lather created.
After the cleansing is completed, the device stops and it prompts you to take a picture that you can either save or share. I thought that was quite interesting. Otherwise, you can just skip. Rinse my face and rinse the device and that’s cleaning done! My skin felt really soft and clean, but not squeaky clean. My skin felt a little numb after the t-sonic pulsations but in a good way. I guess I need to play around with the device a little to see what intensity works best for my face.
Overall
I have been using this for at least 2 months now and initially, I have been using this once a day, every day, mostly at night. Now I am using this once every 3-4 days whenever I feel my skin needs a good cleanse (i.e. wearing heavy makeup or tough sunscreen). My skin always feels really clean and soft afterwards, I do not see any redness or irritation at all.
I highly recommend this cleaning device because it does help deep clean the skin, looking after all the pores and bumps on the skin. It doesn’t unclog your pores and clean the inside of the pores, but it does clean the surface area very well and prevents dead-skin buildup. I think the mini is sufficient for me, I don’t see the need to go for the full size at all at this stage.
