Where I got it: I came back from my 4 week overseas trip to see a lovely box of lippies at my doorstep! What lovely flowers! These Karen Murrell lipsticks are available online for NZD$30.
What I got: This lovely box contains 5 lovely new shades of Karen Murrell lipsticks that evokes a lovely summer bouquet of flowers including peonies, poppies, camellia, etc. The colors from this collection is mainly pastel and pink with one sharp poppy colour. It comes in Camellia Morning, Orchid Bloom, Peony Petal, Lavender Laughter and Poppy Passion.
How I find them: The formula is still the same, they are paraben free with a natural base. The lipsticks contain Avocado Oil to hydrate, Cinnamon to plump the lips, Evening Primrose Oil to moisturise and Carnauba Wax as a base to prevent melting. When I opened the box and had a look at the colours, I was a little worried that these would be too pastel and too pale for my Asian skintone. But I’m giving them a go anyway! Let’s have a look at the swatches shall we?
Camellia Morning 13: This is a dusky pale pink colour that is just a bit lighter than my natural lip colour, but does not wash me out. The tender pink colour is a nice shade for summer, thankfully I missed out a month of sunny Auckland weather and managed to keep my skin fair, otherwise these lip colours won’t look very good with my tanned skin.
Orchid Bloom 14: This shade is starting to get a little paler. This is more of a nude beige/sandy colour which comes out alright on my lips even though it was getting a bit pale for my usual colour choice. However, this is still wearable.
Peony Petal 15: This delicate pastel coral and peach shade gets too pale and pastel for my skintone and my natural lip colour. Did not like this colour at all because it washes me out and makes me look sickly. This will suit someone with a more cooler and pale skintone.
Lavender Laughter 16: This soft lilac shade looks really pretty in the bullet and I have never worn something like this before. If this colour was not as pale, I would really enjoy it. However this is also too pale for my skintone and natural lip colour. These pale colour tends to seep into my lines and accentuates them. The pale purple kinda makes me look sickly as well.
Poppy Passion 17: Now this is more my colour! This poppy flower inspired pink is bursting with passion! This lovely pink looks great on my lips and my skin colour.
Overall: I was a little disappointed with the colours this time round, but I am sure many fairer skinned ladies with cooler skintone will love these lipsticks. The formula is great and the texture is lovely. My favourite from this collection will be Poppy Passion.
