Carew Kitchen Fresh Almond Milk

Recently, due to being pregnant AND having gestational diabetes, I have  been looking after my diet strictly. I have been making fresh soy milk at home with just soy beans and water, munching on celery and carrot sticks as snacks, basmati rice and roast chicken breasts for dinner and apples and oranges as desserts.

When I knew about Carew Kitchen’s Fresh Almond Milk on Instagram I immediately wanted to know how I could get my hands on some!

  • Lactose and gluten free
  • Zero cholesterol/ low calories
  • No hormones/ antibodies
  • Vitamin E, for glowing skin
  • Helps lower blood sugar levels
  • Promotes heart health and normal blood pressure
  • Contributes to eye/skin and bone health
  • Good source of omega fatty acids
  • Free of animal by-products

These lovely almond milk comes in a big 750ml bottle with the expiry date written on a little sticker and a Carew Kitchen tag listing the ingredients: Filtered water, raw unpasteurized almonds, dates, cinnamon and Himalayan pink salt. The almond milk is so fresh it needs to be stored in the fridge and only has a life of 4-5 days. It does separate and that is absolutely normal – just shake it up before drinking!

It has a smooth texture and tastes really nice of cinnamon. The Himalayan pink salt is the little magic ingredient that brings out all the flavours! My favourite way to enjoy this almond milk is drinking it by itself because I just love the taste. Otherwise I will pour this over my cereal in the morning, make smoothies, use it on granola, etc. If you heat it up, it smells even better and will be great in coffees!

The only ingredient in that list that had me a little worried is the dates. Because dates are high GI, it would be best for me to avoid it with my low GI diet. I discussed this with Sophie the owner of Carew Kitchen and she is happy to make an unsweetened version for me – Super!

So this is how you could get some ! At the moment, they are $8 per glass bottle and Sophie did mention she supports a reuse system ($7.50 if you return the empty bottle. I have been reusing the lovely bottle at home for other stuff :>). Unfortunately, it’s not available in shops yet, Sophie is only doing private orders in Central Auckland (minimum 2 bottles per order). Feel free to email Sophie on carewkitchen@gmail.com and make sure you follow her on instgram @carew_kitchen for updates and recipes on how to use this lovely drink! I’ve just made my order for this week for an unsweetened version (without dates)!
