Collection Cosmetics NZ

Where I got it: I was sent these products for consideration when Collection Cosmetics NZ just launched in Countdown supermarkets nationwide. You can purchase these exclusively from Countdown (Countdown is also stocking MUD as well starting from 20th May). Collection Cosmetics have been popular in Australia and not it has arrived in New Zealand! They offer affordable makeup you can buy conveniently while grocery shopping! What I got: I got the Supersize Mascara in Ultra Black, Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner in Glitz, Lasting Colour Lipstick in Passionfruit and Work The Colour Nail Polish in Pink Cadillac.  They also have foundation, pressed powders, eyeliners, blushes, concealers, etc.

How I find it:

Supersize Mascara – Ultra Black: It claims to be a super volumising formula and brush to create bigger, bolder and super-sized lashes. The formula of the mascara is not too wet and it catches onto the lashes easily. The brush is not too big so it doesn’t make a mess of my eye area. I had to wipe off the excess at the tip, then I applied 2 good coats to give me a good coverage. The volumising effect is pretty good actually, but it doesn’t really hold my curls well as the formula is a little heavy for my lashes. However, there is a little bit of running down to my lower eye area at early afternoon (about 5 hrs of wear) which is not too bad. I would say 2 coats is good, 3 coats will clump and give you spidery lashes.

Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner in Glitz:  This gel liner has glitter particles in a clear, quick-drying gel. Comes in 4 shades and this is a silver sparkle liner. I like to use this on my under eyeline or on the outer edges of my under eyeline – special occasions only, not for work. The soft applicator tip makes it easy to get in between the lower lashes and I tend to draw short lines mimicking my lower lashes instead of a line tracing my eye shape if you know what I mean. The glittery eyeliner effect can give a bit of a sparkle to your look and make your eyes just a little bit bigger and more innocent looking. I suppose you could use this on the upper eye area, but I have yet to find an occasion to be all sparkly all over my eyes. Careful not to go overboard, otherwise you will look like a disco ball!

Lasting Colour Lipstick in Passionfruit: This lipstick has SPF15 and is available in 11 shades. Passion fruit is a orange-red shade that has a bit of shimmer in it. I was pretty excited with the shade that I’ve got in my goodie bag as I am very much interested in orangey shades, when I swatched it on the back of my hand it looks great, but when I tried it over my lips, the shimmery particles in the lipstick seems a bit too big to be in a lipstick. The formula kind of catches onto my dry areas and in my lip lines. The colour is pretty good, but the shimmery particles seems to be a bit of a disappointment. It is also not very long lasting as the colour seems to fade and move easily. It is quite pigmented, but the shimmer particles looks really prominent on my lips and I don’t really prefer that.

Work The Colour Nail Polish in 9 Pink Cadillac: Lovely vibrant colours that dries in 60 seconds. I’ve got this in a bright pink and it does dry down quite fast. I use the Seche Vite top coat and it will last me around 4 days before chipping. I need about 2 coats for a good layer of colour, but I would love the brush to be a bit wider.

Overall: I have had a look at all their other products and there are some on my wishlist: Extreme 24hr Felt Tip Liner, Cream Puff Lip Cream, Primed and Ready Primer, Bright and Glow BB Cream and Lasting Perfection Concealor. I have never bought makeup from the supermarket before (not even Maybelline or Covergirl for some reasons). But this is surely something that is worth a try seeing that the price is super affordable. It is great for teenagers and who are on a budget.  Check them out at your local Countdown now!
