If you saw my post on the Antipodes Performance Plus Mineral Foundation, Katrina and Brooke from Antipodes were in Auckland (from Wellington) earlier this week so they have invited a couple of bloggers for some drinks chats at Hotel Debrett in town. When we left, we were given a goodie bag each with the following products.
What I got: From the goodie bag, I have a the limited edition Anti-aging Mini Duo (products in this set has been reviewed here and here), a Grapeseed Butter Cleanser (woohoo!), the Performance Plus Mineral Foundation with SPF17 in Light Yellow 02 and a Kabuki brush. This post, I will review the Grapeseed Butter Cleanser RRP$46.90. This cleanser comes in a plastic tub with a small plastic spatula and has 75g of product. A luscious butter cleanser to leave your complexion feeling divinely fresh and deeply cleansed. Designed to soften and moisturise, this enchanting cleanser combines nourishing cacao butter with soothing oils and quintessential Vinanza Grape antioxidant from New Zealand’s sauvignon blanc grape seeds. It helps repair free radical damage and is scientifically shown to have amongst the world’s highest levels of antioxidants from grapeseeds*. Lavender and blue chamomile soothe sensitive skin.
How I find it: The first time I tried it, I took my makeup off with a cleansing oil, dried my skin and scooped a decent size of the cleanser with the spatula and apply with dry hands to dry skin. The buttery cleanser melted on my skin with the warmth of my skin, then I massaged the cleanser all around my face. Then I tried to rinse it off with warm water and my fingertips. It is a little hard to wash off without a washcloth and it kind of left my skin with a film on top which I am not very used to. Then I used a gentle wipe-off toner to try and get rid of the residue. I quickly checked the box for instructions and found out that I was using it wrong! You are suppose to use it on dampened skin and remove it with warm water and a face cloth. So the second time, I removed my makeup, left my skin damp and apply the cleanser directly and massage all around my face. On removal I used a wash cloth and warm water to help and it removed like a dream! My skin is left soft, but not oily/greasy (but you have to make sure you wash your facecloth afterwards and replace with new one every 3 months).
Overall: If you have really oily skin or you don’t like the feeling of a buttery/balm-like cleanser, this may not be suitable for you as it does leave your skin with like a film on top – moisturising but can feel like there is a layer of product sitting on the skin. This would be great for dry skin and ageing skin! You may notice the white dots and spots in the cleanser which feels like exfoliating beads which feels like beeswax. I scooped out the larger bits on the top (refer to the photos above) and got rid of them because they are quite inconvenient. I have searched online to see different batches have different amounts of these white dots. You may also take note that it is NOT designed to be a makeup remover even though it removed my face makeup, it did not remove my waterproof mascara at all. So make sure you remove your makeup first, then use this cleanser.
