Where I got it: I was sent these for consideration from Manuka Biotic. Manuka Biotic products are available online or in selected stores (check out their Facebook page for more information). From $19.90 to $24.90. Manuka Biotic is manufactured by Coromandel Mountains Manuka Company. They distill their own Manuka essential oil that is 100% certified organic and naturally produced from plants which grow wild on their farm.
What I got: I was sent the Manuka Biotic Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash and Face Cleanser. On their website: “Our organic manuka oil skincare range is made using natural ingredients, excluding hundreds of chemicals that can be potentially harmful to your health, cause skin irritations and more. We’ve specifically formulated our range to suit those with normal to sensitive skin, skin conditions and allergies. PEGs, PABA, EDTA, added fragrances & colouring, petrochemicals, mineral oils, phenoxyethanol, propylene glycol, phthalates, animal testing or animal derivatives. They also have in their range, Body Lotion, Light Day Cream and Hand Cream. All of their products contain Certified Organic Manuka Oil which is certified organic by Bio Gro New Zealand.
How I find it:
Healthy Head & Hair Organic Manuka Oil Shampoo ($19.99 for 250ml). Use everyday to cleanse and refresh your head and hair. Our natural formula is designed to help combat irritation and sensitive scalp conditions through the potent health properties of Manuka Oil, together with the moisturising and strengthening properties of Pro-Vitamin B5 and Moroccan Oil. A great everyday shampoo suitable for most hair types to leave your head and hair feeling fresh and clean. The shampoo smells almost like tea tree, but in the ingredients list, there is no tea tree. It doesn’t contain artificial ingredients to create a lot of lather but it cleanses very well and rinses off easily.
Healthy Head & Hair Organic Manuka Oil Conditioner ($19.99 for 250ml). Our nourishing conditioner is ideal for everyday use. It will help soothe sensitive or dry scalps, while restoring moisture, shine and elasticity to hair by combining the richness of Moroccan Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Manuka & Kanuka Oil, Vitamin E and Pro-Vitamin B5. A great daily conditioner, which is full of natural goodness. The conditioner smells exactly like the shampoo, which I really like. It melts into my hair and doesn’t have that silicon slippery feel. Makes my hair feel soft and smooth after washing off and it doesn’t weigh my hair down. Leaves a light scent on my hair which I really love!
Refreshing Natural Bodywash ($19.99 for 200ml). Cleanse your body naturally, with the potent antibacterial and antioxidant properties of Manuka and Kanuka essential oils. This plant-based natural body wash will clean and hydrate while promoting healthy skin. An excellent daily wash for a healthy body. Our Body Wash highlights the power of the organic Manuka & Kanuka essential oils that we distill ourselves. The entire range smells exactly the same so this body wash is no exception. The gel texture body wash is quite fluid and it spreads easily and lathers not too much and not too little, just the right amount.
Naturally Purifying Face Cleanser ($24.99 for 100ml): Let your skin breathe again, naturally. Our natural face cleanser utilises the potent antibacterial and antioxidant properties of Manuka Oil & Witch Hazel extract, together with anti-aging green tea extract. This cleanser will naturally draw out impurities in the skin leaving your face feeling refreshed and totally clean. With damp hands, I squeeze a small amount of this cleanser on my damp hands and work into a lather then massage onto damp skin. The lather feels soft on the skin and not slimey at all. Washes off easily without residue leaving the skin feeling fresh and clean but not dry and taut.
Overall: While I am familiar with Manuka Honey, I have not come across Manuka Oil before. As the name suggests, they are from the same Manuka plant – one in a form of honey collected by bees, another is distilled from the plant in a form of an oil. They both have excellent anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. On the website: “Organic Manuka Oil has long been valued for its health properties, having been used for centuries by the Māori people of New Zealand. The healing properties of Manuka Oil aid the body in repair and rejuvenation while the antibacterial properties work by helping to keep the skin clean and clear of bacteria that can cause skin problems such as acne, spots and other blemishes. It is a natural healing agent as well as having antibacterial properties and being an antioxidant.”
I have been using the products for about 2 weeks now and I really enjoyed it! The range smells lovely – plant-like and fresh. The products never feels oily or greasy nor too drying on the skin and hair. Lovely fresh-green packaging and the bottle dispensing is very ideal for the viscosity and type of product it contains. The anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties of Manuka Oil will be great for acne-prone skin.
