Where I got it: I was sent this for consideration. I have previously tried Skinnies Sungel (check my post here) and I really like them. You can find these from selected pharmacies and health food stores for $34.95 (100m l) or $18.40 (35ml). Find a list of stockists here or buy online.
What I got: I was sent a 100ml tube of Skinnies Sungel with SPF30. Skinnies Sungel is a new type of sun protection product. This SPF 30 ‘sungel’ contains no water, no preservatives, no parabens, no fragrance and no oil. Most sunscreen are 50-70% water which is why you have to apply a large amount and that you have to reapply frequently. Having no water in the formula makes this sungel quick drying and long-lasting on the skin. It’s gel based formula is not greasy at all and does not wear off with sweating or swimming, until you remove it with water and soap or vigorous rubbing. It is suitable for the whole body and face.
Skinnies Sungel is made from just 7 ingredients.
- IMOGEL™ – Our trademarked, gel formulation is completely water free and produced under GMP manufacturing conditions. Imogel™ holds the UV protective ingredients on the outer layers of your skin so Skinnies does what it should, where it should.
- BEMOTRIZINOL – Blocks the full spectrum of UVA and UVB rays and works extremely well in conjunction with Avobenzone.
- AVOBENZONE – Avobenzone blocks the full spectrum of UVA rays (UVA1 & UVA2) and is THE most effective UVA absorber we could find. Rock on Avo!
- OXYBENZONE – Oxybenzone mops up both UVA & UVB rays and contributes to Skinnies broad spectrum rating.
- OCTOCRYLENE – Blocks UVB and UVA2 rays, and helps Skinnies to stay put when you’re in the water.
- TITANIUM DIOXIDE – TiO2 is a UV reflector (present in non-nanoparticle form) and makes the gel opaque.
- VITAMIN E – Moisturises while the other ingredients protect, as well as mopping up some free radicals formed while you’re out in the sunshine.
And contains no water (coz water doesn’t protect you from UV rays), parabens, preservatives, emulsifiers, fragrances or perfumes, alcohol and it’s GMO free.
How I find it: The texture of a gel is quite different to all other sunscreen products out there. A little goes a long way and the gel doesn’t feel sticky at all. It may feel a little greasy when first applied, but as it sets on the skin (not like a clay mask), it is invisible and feels like nothing. Then I’m ready to head out and not worry about reapply every 2 hours! I like to use this on my body, not so much on my face as I do find that it does affect one of my liquid foundation.
Overall: I like how this sungel feels on my skin and I like the innovative idea behind it – that it contains no water and does not have to be reapplied frequently. Applying thick sunscreen to sweaty, sticky skin is very uncomfortable. It has no white marks at all and application is super quick. Washing off is easy in the shower, just use any ordinary body cleanser and its all removed.
