Where I got it: I was out shopping with my sister the other weekend and we took a visit to the Kiehl’s shop down in Britomart, Auckland CBD. The person who served me (I met her again and got to know her name – Christina) was so nice and they are more than welcome for you to sit down and do a skincare consultation with you (needless to say, they give you samples to try!). First she find out what your skin type is by using 2 tabs on your face, 1 on the forehead and one on your cheeks. Then according to your main concerns, she will line up a skincare regime for you including a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser and treatment products like a mask. Kiehl’s is available from the flagship boutique in Britomart, Smith and Caughey’s, Ballantynes and Kirkcaldie & Stains. This is RRP$98.00.
What I got: This is a 30ml bottle of Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. A replenishing night-time facial oil with distilled botanicals that visibly restores the appearance of skin by morning. It regenerates, repairs, and replenishes skin for smoother, healthier skin by working with the skin’s natural nocturnal activity – when skin is most receptive to repairing itself from daily aggressors – to dramatically restore skin.
How I find it: The bottle comes with a little dropper with a press-down pump at the top. The bottle comes in a beautiful dark blue box and the bottle itself is also dark blue with a black lid to reflect the night time feel. So after cleansing, toning and using the Kiehl’s Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence, I use about 4 drops of this concentrate all over my face. I drop it into my palms, spread it between my palms and with pressing motions, I press it into my skin, then gently smooth it outwards. I let it sink with for about 30 seconds while I apply my eye cream, then I apply a moisturiser on top.
Overall: I love the packaging to start with, the dark blue really sets the night mood for relaxation. The dropper allows for precise measurement of the product and the glass bottle just adds a bit of high-end touch to it. This concentrate has a light oil texture but a very fluid consistency. It is almost like a overnight oil. If you have heard about the Sunday Riley Luna Oil, this has been highly compared to it, or even better than the Luna Oil (it is a cheaper as well). It goes on a little oily-looking, but since the concentrate is so lightweight, it doesn’t feel like that on the hands. After about 30 seconds to a minute, the product has been absorbed even for my combination skin. I use it all over my face even in my t-zone area and it does not break me out. I would definitely use a moisturiser afterwards because this concentrate on its own probably does not provide enough moisture or hydration on its own. So put on a usual amount of moisturiser after the concentrate.
