Little Angels Baby Food

What I got: I was lucky enough to be sent a couple of packs to try out with baby Asher. I was sent the Fig and Banana Porridge, Brown Rice and Pear, Steamed Fish of The Day, Beef Hot Pot and Lamb and Apricot Tagine.

Background:

Little Angels Baby Food is founded by Heather Baker who is a registered nurse and has spent the last 10 years as a mothercraft nurse, contracting to Maternal Mental Health and CYF. Heather has three young children, Reece (11) Leela (9) and Siena (7). Little Angels Baby Food is exactly what its named to be – food for little angles!

The Food:

They make beautiful handmade baby food using organic NZ produce, free range meats, line caught fish and cold pressed oils. Each pack contains 10-13 frozen cubes of baby food (250 g). A baby just starting solids might only eat one cube at a time, but a 12 month old could eat 5-6. On average, a pack contains 3-6 servings. There is a range for babies at 4 months (smooth, simple and pure first tastes), 6 months (smooth with a variety of different tastes), 8 months (fork mashed with lumps and introduction of lots more flavours and tectures) and 12+ months (dices and tender slow cooked). They never add sugar, flour, or any type of preservatives, flavours, colours, fillers, thickeners or emulsifiers. All the flavour and the nutrition comes from our fresh, wholesome ingredients.

The Process:

Little Angels Baby Food meals are cooked just like you would cook at home. Meats are braised, roasted or slow cooked in the oven, and vegetables are gently steamed. They never cook using pressure or ultra-high heat processing as we want our food to retain all the goodness, and nutriments babies need to grow up healthy and strong.

The Packaging:

The cubes are packaged in resealable pouches for easy storage and are to be consumed within 24hrs after opening to remain its freshness and to avoid any contamination.

How I find it: Asher (my little boy) was around 6 months old when he started eating solids. Starting with rice cereal and now he is 14 months old and is having 3 bottles a day and 3 meals a day. Usually he eats congee with a few chunky bits, but he is still slowly getting used to larger chunks that needs biting (He has 10 teeth currently, 2 are quite new canines and it looks like there are 2 more coming from the bottom). I like to heat the cubes up by stove. So a few hours before his meal, I take it out from the pouch and put it in a container for it to slightly defrost in the kitchen (away from direct sunlight of course), then I heat it up on the stove top with a little bit of boiled water. Cool down and serve! I suggest mix it up with something your baby has tried first when you give it to them the first time just to make sure he gets used to it. I often mix it up in his congee so that he gets familiar with the taste.

Overall: Asher’s favourite (and mine too) would be the Steamed Fish of the day! It smells soooo good and taste really good too! The Beef Hotpot was great as well! It has tender chunks of beef that Asher can chew on. However, Asher is still a little not used to chunky potato pieces, so the Lamb Tagine was a little tough for me (I have to chop up the potatoes before feeding him). I love both Fig and Banana Porridge, Brown Rice and Pear, but I have just realised that Asher is a little intolerant to coconut milk or coconut oil so he has a bit of spill after eating those. Don’t worry, they are so tasty mummy will eat them all for you! 😀

These are great for busy mums or when you want a change in baby’s usual foods, or just have some in the freezer just in case you run out of supplies. They are packed with real and healthy ingredients that kids will love! Best to be served within 24 hrs after opening the packet and make sure you keep them in the freezer!
