My hair is naturally coarse and wavy, frizzy around my face and generally dry because I blow dry my hair every time I wash it. Apart from the occasional flat iron and curling iron, I colour my hair about once every 6 months and I try to do a hair mask once every fortnight.
I have been investing in more expensive salon-exclusive hair products therefore I was quite interested in getting some in-salon treatments to boost my hair health and texture. L’Oreal’s Pro Fibre treatment is relatively new (launched in New Zealand on October 2015), it is an in-salon treatment that you can do in half an hours time which will give you immediate results (similar to the Kerasatse Fusio-Dose). But for the Pro Fibre, you have the option of purchasing the shampoo, conditioner and monodosis treatment to prolong the effect at home!
So the first salon that came into mind that does both Kerastase and L’Oreal treatments was Rodney Wayne. They have recently launched an online booking system which makes life soooo much more easier! You can book anytime and choose your services at your own home. One down-side is that it doesn’t tell you the price of your service in advance, but you can usually get a good price range when you make your booking at the salon in person. I ended up booking my treatment during lunch time because the treatment only takes 15 minutes – sweet! You can also book in for a blow-out after the treatment, but I don’t really have time for that.
Interestingly, I initially booked for the Kerastase Fusio-Dose treatment but when I got there, we didn’t confirm my appointment and she gave me the Pro Fibre treatment. I’m ok with that because I intend to try both anyway. But make sure you confirm what you came in for before they start just to make sure.
So when I went in, she sat me down and checked out my hair, asked me a few questions on how I style my hair, how often I colour and use heat styling. Then we went straight to getting my hair shampooed with the L’Oreal Pro Fibre shampoo. She towel-dried my hair and was applying the treatment on my damp hair at the sink, then the mask over it. Gave me a 5 minute head massage and it was ready for rinse off! She applied a Kerastase leave-in conditioner and dried my hair with a round barrel brush. Applied a bit of smoothing serum and we are out the door!
Well, actually before that she showed me the set of products that was recommended for in-home use that could prolong the effects for up to 7 weeks. The in-salon treatment ($40 at Rodney Wayne – same prices as Fusio-Dose) would wash out in 4 washes so being able to keep it up at home for up to 7 weeks is pretty amazing. She recommended the Rectify range (red bottles) for stage 2 damaged hair (there are 3 stages) – shampoo, conditioner, monodosis treatment (6 in a pack) and the serum (comes to about $170).
I wash my hair every 3 days so 4 washes would be about 2 weeks before it washes out entirely. With the take-home products, it would last me about 7 weeks (she recommended that I use the monodosis once a week or once a fortnight). 6 monodosis would last me 12 weeks. $40 for 2 weeks ($20/week) and $170 for 12 weeks ($14/week) works out that prolonging the treatment at home would save me $6 a week.
Let’s go back to the results of the treatment. She simply blow dried my hair with a hair drying and fingers there was no styling done, but man! My hair was so smooth and soft, it didn’t even look frizzy or bouffy! It had natural volume and a nice shine to it. It wasn’t a dramatic transformation of my hair, but the results are noticeable especially when you touch it. I could not stop touching my hair and flicking it around when I got back to the office! I have had heaps of complements as well!
Overall, I’m very impressed with how the treatment has improved my hair and made it really smooth. However the service at Rodney Wayne wasn’t really top notch. I was booked in with someone called Emma, but when I got there, someone else did my treatment. Staff there wasn’t very informative and didn’t really tell me much about my treatment unless I start asking her about it. However she also did not hard-sell any of the products or treatments which I really like. There was no pressure of buying the products at all and she was friendly as well.
After the 1st wash (3 days after treatment), my hair still felt great! It was still silky smooth, tangle-free and soft to the touch. It was still shiny and healthy-looking! After towel-drying my hair I applied my new Kerastase Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Concentrate to my roots and apply my L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil Seve Protectrice
After the 2nd wash, my hair is significantly easy to get tangled compared to after the treatment, but it does feel smooth to the touch. Shiny still but starting to get a little frizzy after blow-drying.
After the 3rd wash, it is obviously back to its own frizziness, but still quite shiny and healthy-looking. No longer super smooth or tangle-free. However it is still easy to blowdry and to manage.
After the 4th wash, the effects of the treatment is pretty much all gone. However I did notice that my hair is quite healthy-looking as I have been washing my hair less (once every 3 days). I have also started using the Kerastase Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Concentrate on my scalp to boost hair growth.
Overall: I was very impressed with how fast the treatment was and how instant the results were. I couldn’t stop touching my hair after the treatment and even after washes, my hair still looked and felt smooth and shiny. The take home products were a little pricey and honestly I am really lazy in doing hair treatments that you need to towel dry your hair, apply the hair mask and sit for 30 minutes to rinse off. I just don’t have that sort of time. To see great results with one treatment that lasts for about 2 weeks, I think I would do this treatment when I’m about to go on a short holiday or like a special event.
