Where I got it: I bought this from The Body Shop in Botany Town Center for $39.75. I also bought their duo fibre foundation brush for $32.75. You can purchase this from any Body Shop shops and online.
What I got: This is a 15ml bottle of The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops in Lightening. If you have light to medium skin you may find your foundation looks too dark or orange. A concentration of white and pink pigments in our Lightening Drops helps neutralize yellowness while lightening. Simply add a drop to lighten light to medium shades. For use with light to medium foundation shades. Transform an “almost right” foundation shade into the perfect one. 1 drop = ½ a shade lighter/. Works with most liquid foundations.
How I find it: I have tried this shade adjusting drop with a number of different foundations including BB creams. I dispense the usual amount of foundation on the back of my hand and apply one drop of the shade adjusting drops, blend it up and see how the shade goes. I might add another drop or half a drop. Usually, my foundations and BB creams are pretty much the right shade (unless they are too pink which I don’t think this product would help anyway). I tend to be a shade darker in the summer and revert back to my normal shade in winter. If I were to use my Cover FX Custom Cover Drops to increase coverage of my foundation, I would add the Cover Drops first, blend it up then use the Shade Adjusting Drops. You have to be careful not to use too much at one go and check the shade once it’s blended.
Overall: The drops are not supposed to alter the coverage, texture or finish of your base foundation and I do find that it is true. The product in the bottle is a rather opaque white lotion that has a pink undertone that is rather thick. The dropper is a little difficult to use as it’s thick consistency makes it hard to come out from a dropper. The bottleneck can also get a little messy. I find that for my foundation shades, the maximum I would need is around 2 drops maximum. After trying it out with foundations with different textures and finishes. For fuller coverage foundations, the effects are more obvious, but for BB creams and lighter coverage foundations, you can’t really see a big difference once it is applied on the skin. It did not alter luminous or mattifying foundations which were quite amazing, but it did alter the texture of some really liquid to powder foundations (i.e. L’Oreal Eau De Teint, YSL Fusion Ink and SmashBox BBWater) and made it slightly thicker.
If they were to come up with a shade-adjusting drop that changes the undertone of a foundation then I would be really interested. However, I don’t seem to have such a big issue with finding a right foundation shade for my skin tone, but people with very pale skin tone or quite dark skin tone would really benefit from these drops.
