L’Oreal Pro Fibre Treatment and Haircare range

Where I got it: I had my in-salon treatment at Rodney Wayne Botany ($32) and got most of the at-home products on www.lookfantastic.com. I ordered the products on 12/1 and the products arrived on 21/1 which is pretty good coming from the US. Here is my code: KITTY-R4C or my referral link: http://www.lookfantastic.com/referrals.list?applyCode=KITTY-R4C&li . Except for the leave-in treatment which I got at Rodney Wayne for $48.50. The products I got from lookfantastic.com came to a total of USD$62.

What it is: The L’Oreal Pro Fibre system starts as an in-salon system and can be maintained with a set of at-home products.

The in-salon treatment should be a simple hair consultation with your stylist to determine your hair damage level. There are 3 levels from low to high damage: Rectify, Restore and Reconstruct (the names are different in each country and some countries have 4 levels instead of 3. Elsewhere they are called Revive, Restore and Recover). Then your hair will be washed with the corresponding shampoo from the recommended range, hair is towel-dried and the entire tube of concentrate is applied to sections of the hair. Then with a measured scoop, the stylist will scoop a dose of the special mask and apply this all over the hair. The treatment will be left on for at least 5 minutes and then rinsed off. Hair should immediately be softer and smoother to the touch, but don’t expect a miracle.

As for the at-home treatment, the system consists of a shampoo, conditioner, a hair mask and a recharge booster and a leave-in product. You are supposed to use the shampoo and conditioner or mask every time you wash your hair and use the recharge booster every 4 washes. If you wash your hair every 2-3 days, this will prolong the effects for a little bit longer than if you wash your hair every day. The recharge booster should be left on the hair for 5 minutes then rinse off. It should give you the same smooth and soft results you get from the salon treatment. The leave-in treatment will provide heat protection and a provide a nice finishing touch to the hair.

How I find it: So I will first share my experience of the in-salon treatment. I did mine at the Rodney Wayne at Botany Town Centre (I paid for my own treatment and products). I wasn’t given the consultation that I was suppose to have and the stylist simply asked me if I know which colour or range I wanted. I had done some research prior so I knew my hair needed the strongest range. I was then taken for a shampoo which was really relaxing and they did use the Pro Fibre shampoo according to my level of damage. I did not see what colour concentrate they used on my hair as she did not show me but she gave me a good head massage for a good 5-7 minutes then rinsed off. My hair was just dried off because that is what I have requested (I had limited time).

My hair did not turn out super soft and smooth as I have expected. I have had the Pro Fibre treatment done before but had not published a post on that. I also did not purchase the set of at-home products because they were so expensive at the salon. However, the first time my hair turned out really soft and smooth I could not stop touching my hair. But for some strange reason, the results this time was somewhat different.

Nonetheless, I will still keep using the at-home system to see if it can be improved further. I do plan to do another salon treatment when I run out of the recharge booster. So let’s get to the at-home system.

With my first wash 2 days after the treatment, I used the shampoo, the mask and the leave-in conditioner. The shampoo lathers up nicely and is quite thick and creamy. It smells like vanilla and is applied onto damp hair and rinsed off after 5 minutes. I love how you can apply the mask to damp hair instead of towel-dried hair because I hate getting out of the shower and wait 10-15 minutes. The results: my hair felt smooth to the touch but my damaged ends still feel rough and frizzy. Hair feels more manageable but lacks shine to it. Hopefully, the more I use the products the better it gets.

The mask is quite thick and has a very pale purple appearance. I only needed a small amount for my shoulder length hair. Once it’s applied, I clip my hair up and I cleanse my body, my face and enjoy the hot shower for a while. Then I rinse the mask off.

The leave-in cream makes the hair less frizzy and helps protect the hair from the blow dryer heat. One pump is enough for my shoulder length thick hair as 2 pumps will make my hair feel greasy soon after I blow dry my hair. I simply rub it between my palms and massage it to my hair length and ends. Blow dry as usual.

L’Oreal Pro Fibre Recover Recharge Booster

Every 4th wash, I replace the conditioner/mask with the recharge booster. There are 6 tubes in a box so it can least me a good 10 weeks at least.

One recharge booster tube has 20ml of product and that is A LOT of product for one application for my hair length. After I’ve rinsed off my shampoo, I wring out as much water from my hair as I can (no need to towel dry) and I apply the booster all the way from my ends to my roots. If you have longer hair you can apply to the lengths and ends only. I then clip my hair up and wait for 5 minutes to rinse off.

The formula rinsed off easily without leaving the hair feeling slippery and greasy (like you can’t rinse a conditioner off). However, the hair does feel smooth and silky. After blow drying my hair however still feels frizzy and dry on the ends.

Overall: A bit disappointed really, the first time I had the Pro Fibre treatment, my hair felt and looked amazing. However, for some strange reason, it did not turn out the same. Much to my disappointment, it wasn’t even half as good! Anyway, it’s probably that my own hair was too damaged to start and the structure of my hair is unruly curly. After using up all of the Recharge Boosters, my hair does feel better than before. My mid-lengths are much smoother, but my ends are still pretty bad. I think they just need to be trimmed off. However, I do think the in-salon treatment and at-home hair care system is quite good if you have normal to slightly damaged hair. If your hair is severely damaged (chemically or heat damaged), I would suggest either trim it, look after it and grow it out. Maybe lay off high heat styling for a while (i.e straightening iron and wands).
