For years, I didn’t really know what my mum would love as her Mother’s Day gift until now that I am a mother myself…
First of all, every mother is different and they would want or need different things in their life. My mother, for example, would love a pot plant over a bouquet of flowers that will fade in a few days, but I would prefer a bunch of beautiful flowers instead of a pot plant because I simply cannot take good care of plants.
Secondly, mothers at different stages in their life would want different things. For example, my mother loves spending time with us for brunch, lunch or dinner now that her kids are all grown up and make their own money. As for me, a young mum of a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old, going to brunch or even dinner with them can be quite a distressing thing to do because I won’t be able to really relax and enjoy the food in peace.
Thirdly, all mothers love thoughtfulness from their children (and husband). It’s the thought that counts, right?? When you spend enough time with your mother and notice her needs and what she uses, etc. you will start to realise what she needs and maybe simply the items she needs replacing (skincare, clothing, accessories, etc.).
Thankfully, some mothers love gifts and are open to let their kids know what they want just in case they don’t notice enough (or are too young to buy them, so dad does the shopping instead with his credit card. Lol.). I am one of those mums. Besides a good sleep-in until 10, a good relaxing spa treatment, followed with high tea or brunch with my dear sisters and friends, it’s always good to open a box of presents.
Here are some great gift ideas for the person who loves you unconditionally, even though she may not say it, but she does.
When mum gets the chance to have a nice hot shower, why not make that time more indulgent by gifting her the new Kerastase Aura Botanica haircare range? Enriched with Samoan Coconut Oil and hand press Moroccan Argan Oil, this Kerastase range if sulphate-free, silicon-free and paraben-free.
This extremely nourishing recovery night cream infused with French Rose extracts will be the most luxurious and indulgent pampering skincare item you can gift to the most important women in your life (mother or wife). Applied at night, this thick and dense cream leaves a soft and protective shine-free film on the skin, revitalising the skin and helps the natural recovery process.
If your mum is anything like mine, something like this would be perfect (from age 50 onwards). She hardly takes care of her skin because she can be quite lazy and hates spending much money in skincare or makeup (totally different to me). A simple day and night cream is all she wants in her skincare regime. I’ll persuade her to add in that serum – it looks and smells so good!
As a mother, you just don’t get much time to have a nice hot shower let alone get a good shave. So, spending some time to get my hair removed permanently is just awesome.
My hair is usually a mess in the morning, so I just brush it and put it up in a ponytail to get it out of the way. This straightening brush will straighten and condition my hair at the same time – sign me up!
This Liquid Gold is packed with Glycolic Acid to reinvigorates the skin on a cellular level. It resurfaces and evens out the skintone. Just apply it at night and let it work its magic! No need to rinse – what a time saver!
I love keeping pictures of my lovely family and this Fujifilm Instax Wide will be the best present this year. A wide format photo gets everyone in the picture!
Who doesn’t love a set of new cosy pajamas to snuggle up in? Check out this PJ set from Postie+! It’s only $15!
Keep mum warm when she needs to get out of bed when the baby cries, when the toddler has a nightmare, or just to cosy up in front of the TV.
This beautiful gift set from Clarins is also a great one, and affordable too. It has a body lotion, hand cream, lip gloss, lipstick and cute heart socks. It’s all packed in a presentable gift box with card. You don’t even need to wrap it! You just can’t get it wrong.
AZTEN Balance Soothing Mask is a wonderful gift for Mums who need a little TLC. When you are stressed, your skin is usually the first to react. Give her a bit of me-time (7 minutes is all she needs for this mask).
Something sweet is always nice. Make her pancakes in the morning and drizzle some Chantal Apple syrup over it as a final touch. Made from juicy, organic New Zealand apples, it is a natural alternative to refined sugar as it contains only pure apple juice.
Finally, take your mum out for a nice brunch or just spend time with her and chat about everything. Spending time with someone is priceless because you can never earn back the time that was already spent. Happy Mother’s Day!
