Where I got it: I was sent this to trial and review from Seed+Soul (thank you). I came across their brand on Instagram and was quite interested in their products – especially this charcoal mask. This is RRP$32.00.
What I got: This is the Seed+Soul Botanic Volcanic Mask (50g). Packed with Activated Charcoal, Bentonite Clay + Eucalyptus, this mask will give your face a new lease on life. Like a phoenix, rise from the ashes. Mined from the earth, this volcanic ash, activated by water attracts dirt and toxins leaving you cyclically regenerated. For the best results use me in the evening once to twice a week. Cruelty-free and 100% vegan.
How I find it: First of all, the charcoal powder is really really fine with bits of eucalyptus mixed in almost like tea leaves. It recommends mixing 1 tsp with 2 tsp of water which is 1:2 ratio. The consistency was quite runny, definitely not a paste which is what I have expected, therefore I would recommend mixing in a shallow dish or bowl and then pick up the mixture with a mask brush or even your fingers. I applied with my fingertips and there were no dripping issues at all, the eucalyptus leaves acts almost as a gentle exfoliant. It turns out the consistency was pretty spot on, but if you prefer a thicker consistency, just reduce the water ratio.
Afer 10-15 minutes, the mask will dry and make your skin feel tight. I add a little bit of water to loosen the mask up and massage the leaves onto my skin. Then just rinse thoroughly with water and fingertips. I would avoid using a washcloth unless it’s black because the charcoal will stain. After washing off, it is best to use a toner to wipe the face clean because the fine charcoal powder will get stuck in places like my pores. I noticed that some of my pores have cleaned up while some needed a little bit of help. So after washing the mask off, I used a cotton bud or a comedome extractor to gently press on those areas and gently remove them (the mask brings it up and makes it easier to remove).
Overall: I love how fine the charcoal powder is and gosh this mask packs a punch! A little goes a long way and how the charcoal draws out the impurities from my blackheads! My skin feels so clean afterwards but I would probably suggest using this once a week because it can dry out the skin a little (I have combination oily skin) and it’s kind of an emergency rescue mask for me. After the mask, I like to put on a hydrating serum and moisturiser to put hydration and moisture back into my skin.
