YSL UV Protection High Protection Skincare SPF50 PA++++

Where I got it: I got this from my local YSL counter from Farmers for $95.00 which is quite expensive for 30ml of product. I’ll see if the product justifies how much I paid for it.

What I got: This is the YSL UV Protection High Protection Skincare SPF50 PA++++High protection skin care. The first UV skin care from Yves Saint Laurent integrating the GLYCANACTIF complex and an antioxidant active provides UVA and UVB invisible defence to help protect skin’s radiant veil. A lightweight UV fluid with SPF 50 – PA++++ broad spectrum care providing ideal protection to preserve skin’s light. Skin’s natural radiance achieves an exceptional luminosity while being protected from uv skin damage. Suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin.

How I find it: I am a huge believer of sunscreen every single day even when I don’t plan to go out or even when it is overcast out there. I apply at least SPF30 and I prefer physical sunscreen over chemical because from heaps of research out there, chemical sunscreen causes many irritations and works by absorbing the UV rays but physical sunscreen reflects it off. However, the downside of physical sunscreen is that you will get a white cast and that it will flash back (less obvious when you have a good formula). I personally do not mind the white cast unless it’s making me look very unnatural, and I don’t get flash-photography much either so I would much rather protect my skin from harmful UV rays than make sure I look good in photos. If I know that I will have flash photography, which will usually be at night only and I won’t wear any sunscreen.

Anyway, back to the product. This is a good amount of SPF for everyday use and the texture of this sunscreen is quite nice – it is a medium thickness lotion and it is absorbed into the skin at a reasonable rate. It’s not the most refreshing sunscreen I’ve used, but it does leave the skin feeling soft and non-sticky. It doesn’t leave a visible white cast and it is not greasy as well so foundation goes on easily. It is on the moisturising side so if you have normal to dry skin, you will be able to use this. If you have combination skin, it will work for you too, but if you have oily skin, you might need some mattifying products if you prefer a matte look.

Overall: I find myself reaching for this quite a lot lately no matter when I’m wearing foundation or not. It is a nice sunscreen base for foundation even if your foundation has sunscreen because you are less likely to use enough foundation to your face for the sun protection to be adequate so sometimes relying on the foundation to provide sun protection is not enough. It doesn’t leave my skin sticky or greasy or oily. It is also supposed to be a skincare product hence the expensive price tag.
