Avène Cicalfate Restorative Skin Cream

Where I got it: Lately, my little baby boy has been having a few dry and scaly patches around his torso that he scratches whenever we take his onesies off. It gets a little red, especially when he scratches, but there it isn’t really spreading or bleeding or oozing. Took him to the GP and she said it’s probably allergies and for us to apply some Hydrocortisone on it. Hydrocortisone is a steroid cream so I am a little reluctant to apply daily unless otherwise necessary. So I went out to my local Pharmacy to look for alternative products. The lady at Life Pharmacy recommended this one from Avene as well as one from La Roche Posay (exclusively available at Life Pharmacy at the moment! I will be doing a post on that as well in the future) Both brands are really well-known for treatment for sensitive skin and dry skin so I’ve decided to give them a try (for myself as well). This came in a value pack with a free 50ml Eau Thermale spray for $20.99.

What I got: This is a 40ml tube of the Avène Cicalfate Restorative Skin Cream. A technologically advanced cutaneous barrier cream to help soothe and restore damaged, dry, cracked and non-oozing atopic skin. Maintains the optimum environment for skin to heal.

How I find it: You can apply this cream whenever really. I just make sure I cleanse the skin thoroughly, so usually after a bath, I will apply the cream on his belly and chest area (where he is itchy and red) with a thin, even layer. I usually put his onesies on halfway, so I don’t buckle the crotch area and I reach in to apply so he won’t get any cream on his little fingers. Then I quickly button him up to prevent him from scratching. It seems to provide a bit of immediate soothing and moisturising so I don’t need to apply another lotion on top. It is also fragrance and colour free so that hasn’t caused any more skin irritations. I can also apply this to the nappy area as well and on his face as well.

Overall: I love how the cream is not super thick and greasy on the skin. It feels protective any hydrating, but it sinks into the skin quickly. It is fragrance-free so that is one less thing to worry about for your little ones. My skin tolerated very well with fragrance, but when it comes to irritated skin, I would much prefer something without fragrance or colouring. The cream provides a soothing and protective barrier to the skin so that there will be less scratching from dryness. I love using this on my dry patches on my body but it is probably too thick for my face. It’s a handy cream to have in the household for everyone to use.
