Where I got it: I got this from my local Kiehl’s store in Sylvia Park for $38.00. This reminds me of Fresh’s Lip Treatments which they are famously known for. I see some brands are coming out with their own versions (i.e. L’Occitane has one) and I think that is a great idea. They are a multi-beneficial product that is a lip balm, lip treatment, tint and sunscreen for the lips (not all of them have SPF though). Comes in 5 other shades.
What I got: This is the Kiehl’s Butterstick Lip Treatment SPF25 in Pure Petal (4.0g). Kiehl’s Butterstick Lip Treatment is a supremely hydrating and smoothing balm with a nourishing blend of oils and butters. Our formula, made with Coconut Oil, instantly melts onto lips, providing a cushion of soothing moisture. With antioxidants, including Lemon Butter, combined with broad spectrum SPF 25 sunscreen, our lip treatment provides year-round protection for lips. Lips feel and look softer, smoother and moisturized, and stay hydrated for up to 12 hours after application.
How I find it: The shade of the lip treatment looks like candyfloss pink and I was a little intimidated by it at first sight. When I tested it out on the back, of my hand, surely enough the colour was quite pretty, but I usually don’t wear pale or light shades on my lips because my natural lip colour is quite deep. If I were to put anything pale or light on top, it would wash me out and make me look sick. However, since this is more of a tint, the pink shade tends to give my lips a sheer wash of colour that made me look younger and more refreshed (if you know what I mean). I used to shy away from pink because it can make me look rather childish, but this pink works with my natural lip colour and just gave it a bit of colour without covering my natural shade.
Overall: The more I use it, the more I like it. The packaging feels really nice and solid, it has a weight to it and the twist open lid at the top is exactly like Fresh’s Lip Treatment. I like the lip balm texture of the Buttersticks and it is not too greasy or oily and it is not sticky. I find that the Fresh one is a little too pigmented for everyday use (mine is red) and that it seems to melt onto my lips depositing too much product on my lips. However, I love how it has SPF25 which I think a lot of lip balms tends to leave out. Sunscreen is as important to the lips as it is to our face. There is one downside though, the smell of this Butterstick is not what I prefer. It almost has a peppery smell to it and I was expecting something floral or sweet. I didn’t smell the other shades, but I will definitely go check it out again and see if they all smell the same.
