Hourglass Veil Mineral and No.28 Serum Primer

Where I got it: I got these from the new Mecca Maxima store in Albany Mega Centre. They are only the travel size so are only around 8-9ml each. The Veil Mineral Primer was $29 and the No.28 Serum Primer was $34.

What I got: I got the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer and the No.28 Serum Primer in travel size. The packaging of both primers is identical with the frosted glass tube and a black plastic pump with a translucent lid. Comes in its own Hourglass signature paper box complete with simple usage instructions.

How I find it:

Veil Mineral Primer. This lightweight mineral primer melts into the skin, restoring moisture and imparting a silky-smooth finish. It helps to visibly diminish the appearance of large pores and fine lines and preps the skin for even makeup application while extending its durability, meaning fewer touch-ups. Water-resistant to ensure a perfect complexion in any climate. Formulated with SPF 15 from naturally-derived titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to protect skin from UVA/UVB rays. Suitable for those prone to sensitivity.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

I was a little surprised with the texture of this primer. It is thin, almost like a watery Japanese sunscreen if you know what I mean. It is white in colour and initially spreads out with a bit of a sheer wash of pale white colour then it just disappears. The primer feels really smooth and thin on the skin. It has a silicone-type silky smooth effect on the skin which preps the skin for a smooth foundation application. It doesn’t give a white cast at all and has no fragrance as well. This is definitely suitable for all skin types.

No. 28 Serum Primer. This silky, luxurious oil-blend glides on to strengthen the skin’s natural moisture barrier, even out pores, and shield against environmental aggressors. The formula’s hydrating action helps to create a refined and re-texturised surface for makeup. Skin appears dewier, younger, and more luminous. The “28” in the product’s name refers to the formula’s key ingredients, which include 14 essential oils, 10 lipid-rich plant oils, and 4 vitamins.

Hourglass No 28 Serum Primer

This primer is actually more expensive than the Veil, but I haven’t really seen people raving about this one, but I’ll give it a try. The consistency of this one is certainly a lot silkier and almost oily. It is clear and has almost a glossiness to it (of course it fades as you blend it out). It has a herbal fragrance to it because of its essential oils I guess. This primer gives a much more glowy look and slip to the skin compared to the Veil. I would say this is more suitable for people with dry skin as it is quite moisturising.

Overall: I was super excited to try out the Hourglass primers. I had my eye on them ever since the first Mecca store opened in New Market, but never got myself around to fork out that amount of money on a full sized primer I don’t even know if it would suit me. So when Mecca has a travel/mini size it is just the perfect chance to try it out.

I like both primers and if I were to buy the full sized, I would go for the Veil purely because the No28 is a little too greasy for my skin type. I would save it for use during winter when my skin is drier than normal, but I think the Veil is a good all-rounder. It makes my skin silky smooth without being heavy and my foundation blends in evenly without bunching up or pilling. It does come in the regular size and a jumbo size which is much better in terms of value.
