Avene Cleanance Expert Emulsion

Where I got it: I got this from the Chemist Warehouse for $26.49 (RRP$37.60). Avene products are also available from places like Life Pharmacy.

What I got: This is a 40ml tube of Avene Cleanance Expert Emulsion. More than just a moisturiser, Cleanance Expert acts on the main causes of spots; regulating the production of oil to mattify the skin, and gently exfoliating without stripping the skin, to unclog pores and leave the skin soft and smooth. DiolénylTM*, a patented innovation developed by Pierre Fabre Research, with a selective triple action to limit the risk of bacterial proliferation (clinically in vitro proven on P. acnes), reduce redness and help eliminate spots.

EXFOLIATING: X-PressinTM* helps reduce blackheads and smoothes the skin’s texture.

MATTIFYING: Monolaurin* regulates the hyperproduction of sebum.

SOOTHING: Avène Thermal Spring Water provides all its soothing and anti-irritating properties.

How I find it: This lotion is designed to be used during the day while the Acneal Expert is to be used at night. I have bought both products so I have been using them both day and night for at least 4 weeks now. So after my normal cleansing, toning and serums (been using a lightweight Hyaluronic Acid serum by The Ordinary which works quite well with my acne-prone, combination/oily skin), I apply a pea-sized about of this lotion all over my face and neck. The texture of this emulsion looks like a cream but feels light like a lotion. There is a slight scent that smells clean and applies to the skin effortlessly without too much slip or mattifying on the skin. It is not greasy and it feels just the right about my moisture for my skin. I don’t need any more moisturiser and I will always use a sunscreen over it.

Overall: Really love the texture of this emulsion, it feels great on the skin and is not greasy or leaving a layer on top of the skin. Sunscreen and makeup goes on the product without a problem and it doesn’t feel like I layered on a million layers on the skin (unless you do layer on heaps of primers and foundations, etc. over this stuff). I have been pairing this with their new Triacneal emulsion at night so I think I got a good skincare regime going on. I have also been mixing the L-Ascorbic Acid powder from The Ordinary in during the day a well and it works like a dream. After a good month of using both products day and night I think my skin has really improved and you can see it. Right when I started using these two products I had an allergic reaction to a Biotin supplement and I was breaking out around my jaw area (under-the-skin type which really hurt). After about a week I start to see the breakouts fading – some went to the surface and some of them just slowly dissipated. I haven’t really been doing much masks for the last 2-3 weeks because I got so busy and lazy, so that’s not the results from masks I have done. I really love how gentle the formula feels on the skin – it does not irritate or dry out my skin like a lot of skincare products do that targets blemishes or acne as such. Both formulas are moisturising but not greasy or pore-clogging at the same time. I will definitely keep using these until I empty the bottles and I will most likely repurchase them as a backup skincare product when I get these flareups again.
