Where I got it: I have been recently looking into collagen supplements, collagen supplements, etc, for my skin, hair and nails. I got this one from the Chemist Warehouse for $34.99 while on sale.
What I got: This is the Clinicians Rejuvenate with Hyaluronic Acid (60 caps). Helps support the body to repair collagen and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and dryness. Helps to hydrate and plump the skin. Supports hair and nail strength.
Contains a synergistic combination of natural New Zealand marine collagen and hyaluronic acid to strengthen, lubricate and hydrate the skin. This is combined with avocado oil to increase bioavailability. Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant to help protect the skin against oxidative damage and UV light. Rejuvenate contains marine collagen to help replace declining collagen levels as we age. Collagen is important for strong hair and nails. In the skin, collagen strengthens and supports the upper layers to help prevent lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid attracts moisture to the skin keeping it plump and fresh. Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant proven to enhance skin appearance by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and helps improve skin elasticity.
Active ingredients: New Zealand Marine Collagen 250mg, Hyaluronic acid 25mg, Astaxanthin 3mg and New Zealand Avocado Oil 465mg. Also contains Gelatine, glycerol and water, sorbitol, beeswax, titanium dioxide and iron oxide. No Added: Gluten, dairy, yeast, sugar, artificial colours, sweeteners, flavours or preservatives.
How I find it: I always follow instructions of supplements carefully so that I get the full benefit of the product. The box says to take 2 a day for 8 weeks then reduce to 1 capsule a day. These collagen supplements are in large soft gel capsules. Easily taken with a glass of water and I always take it in the morning after breakfast along with my multivitamin and probiotics. If I take supplements before food, I always feel nauseous.
Overall: After taking these for 4 weeks (1 box), I don’t really notice a big difference. I am on the Reformaskin treatments with Caci Clinic at the moment which involves Microdermabrasion and Collagen Induction. Both treatments kick-start collagen production, so I think taking collagen supplements would boost the effects. However, it would take more than 4 weeks to see visible results. So let’s take it for another 4 weeks and see.
It has been 8 weeks now (2nd box) and since the box recommends taking 2 a day for 8 weeks then reduce to 1 a day, I would say that the first 8 weeks were to boost collagen production hard and fast. Then taking 1 a day as a maintenance. After 8 weeks, I do see my skin is very plump and glowing. I really couldn’t tell if it was the supplements working or if I have a good skincare regime going on, but I have also been getting significantly fewer breakouts and my nails are stronger and healthier (less breaking and smooth).
I have bought another box to see how my skin reacts after the 8 weeks extra boost period and then the maintenance period where I only take 1 a day.
OK, so after a total of 16 weeks of taking the Clinicians Rejuvenate with Hyaluronic Acid (total of 3 boxes, 2-a-day for 8 weeks, 1-a-day for 8 weeks), I do say that I feel my nails are stronger and more healthy looking, and my skin is more resilient and smooth. I think what I’m doing now with my skincare, lifestyle and food is working for my skin so as long as I can afford to, I’m going to keep taking these collagen supplements 1-a-day. I honestly think these capsules are very handy and travel-friendly compared to powder collagen that comes in a big tub and needs to be mixed with liquid.
