Maybelline Total Temptation Eyeshadow and Highlighter Palette

Where I got it: I got this from my local Countdown supermarket while they were doing a 40% off everything by Maybelline. This shadow came down to $17.99. You can get Maybelline products from leading supermarkets, Farmers, Pharmacies and Kmart.

What I got: This is the Maybelline Total Temptation Eyeshadow and Highlighter Palette. Draw attention to your eyes with bold and indulgent definition. Maybelline’s Total Temptation Eyeshadow + Highlight Palette features eight eyeshadows and two highlighters to create your all in one look. 

How I find it: So this palette comes in a plastic vase with 8 eye shadows and 2 highlighter shades, of course you can you the highlighter shades as eyeshadows Too which makes this a 10 shade palette. For $18 that’s a pretty good value.

In terms of the shade story, this palette is going for the more natural looking shades. You have these warm neutrals on the left and your browns, and on the right you have some pinks and mauve purples and a matte black. The quads on each side can be used to create one eye look, with a potential liner shade (darkest at the bottom), but from experience, the brown liner shade is way too light to show up on my eye area so that will just be an outer corner shade for me.

On the left, the peach base colour and the champagne shimmery shade looks beautiful and they translate pretty well on the lids. The brown is a good transition/crease shade to give depth without looking too dark. The liner shade however was a little too light, very much similar to the 3rd shade which does not make much of a difference. I would prefer the last shade to be a lot darker.

On the right, we have the pinky mauve shadows and a matte black liner shade. The second shade from the top has silver shimmer and this colour does not transfer well from the fingers or brush to the lid. The base colour is totally gone and the shimmer doesn’t stick on at all. I tried spraying my brush with a bit of Fix+ to see if it helps, but no. There are just heaps of fall out and the glitter just gets everywhere and I can’t even sweep it off! Not sure why this particular shade just does not want to work on my eyes!

The other 3 shades though are quite nice and are very buildable despite overall are a little dusty and the matte black does have fall out.

The two highlighter shades are beautiful in the pan and on the skin. They are really pigmented so be really careful about applying and layering. They are both really shimmery powder highlighters so you might want to avoid applying too much or applying to where you have enlarged pores.

Overall: There is a mixture of matte and shimmery shades in the palette with mostly the lighter shades to be shimmery. All of the matte shades are really pigmented and blends easily, but the shimmery shades are really lacking. Especially the second shade from the top on the right, it was easy to pick up with the fingertip, but really hard to transfer it onto the lid, the same thing with a brush. The lighter, shimmery colours don’t really pop on the lid so I’m a little disappointed in that.

There is one very interesting thing I noticed in a couple of the Maybelline palettes lately is that their eyeshadow pigments are raised above their pans which doesn’t really affect the formula, but it was just a little interesting. They are also a little powdery/dusty, so there are fall-outs and the pan can get a little messy.

Overall, I enjoyed the palette and its colours. They are really easy to use every day and I think it’s a great palette if you are new to eye makeup and want to start with some basic colours (none of that cut crease stuff) and if you prefer natural looking eye makeup. It doesn’t come with any brushes or applicators or a mirror which I find a little inconvenient.
