LA Splash Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick

LA Splash Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick

Where I got it: I have seen LA Splash products before on NZsale and I was really drawn to the packaging, to be honest. One day I finally decided to order some shades. I got these shades for $5 each.

What I got: These are the LA Splash Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in Cream Bavaroise, Goals AF and Can’t Even. A matte lip stain boasting a summer-inspired scent that gives strong colour pay off and staying power without any dryness. Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick is an intensely pigmented hue that glides smoothly over the lips to deliver a full coverage finish. The intensely creamy formula offers long-lasting hydration whilst drying down to a full-matte finish for a fade resistant stay-all-day pout.

How I find it: With liquid lipsticks, if I already planned to use one during the day, I prepare 2 things.

1. Apply lip balm or lip oil after brushing my teeth and by the time I finished my makeup and ready to go out, I wipe the lip balm off and apply the liquid lip on top. This will make my lips hydrated before applying anything, but not too greasy or oily that the liquid lip won’t stick.

2. I bring with me a travel-sized makeup remover (2-phased ones that can remove waterproof makeup) and cotton pads and a-tips. Or, I bring some makeup wipes. This is for fix-ups and emergency removals.

I have learned this the hard way where I am caught out with half faded out bold liquid lip and nothing to remove it. I had to rub hard with tissue, apply heaps of lip balm and rub rigorously again, repeat until most of the product is removed (it will remove the foundation around my mouth too).

Goals AF is a beautiful dark pink shade that would look really nice on lighter skin tones. I personally shy away from lighter shade lipsticks, especially liquid lipsticks because if they get dry and crackly, it wouldn’t be a cute look. However, the formula is superb and the shade actually doesn’t look too strange on me.

Cream Bavaroise is a bold bright red. Looks absolutely beautiful on all skin tones and I love how it can brighten up my skin. This formula makes this red lip very easy to wear without having to worry the lipstick will get everywhere or smudge or that awkward half fade off look. The formula applies evenly and not thick at all, so you only need to wait for a minute for it to dry. Once it dries, it feels comfortable on the lips and is not grabbing your lips if you know what I mean. You can gently rub your lips together without moving them or making you lips feel like dried mud.

Can’t Even is a deep berry purple shade with a brown tone. This is not your everyday deep red or deep berry tones, this is vampy, gothic purple lip in my opinion. I would wear a dark red or dark berry or wine colour, but a dark brownish purple like this makes me look like I’m going out partying after work or I’m doing a Halloween makeup look. I just can’t pull this off for every day or even a night out.4)’

Overall: Love the formula of all these shades and all the 3 shades I got were safe shades for my skin tone. They dry down to a velvety soft matte lip, which I won’t say it’s 100% smudge proof and transfer proof, but it is far superior to a lot of liquid lipsticks I’ve used so far. If you drink from a cup, only a very small amount wears off and it doesn’t affect the look on your lips. I tried eating a sandwich which held up very well, but with eating noodles or pasta (something with sauce and/oily) it will wear off. I often bring with me either a travel sized 2-phase makeup remover, or a makeup wipe to remove these long-wearing liquid lip so I can reapply when they wear off. I never, ever reapply on top of existing liquid lip because that just does not work whatsoever, no matter what brand. Always remove, lip balm, blot and reapply.
