As usual, I got this from the Clarins counter in Life Pharmacy Botany. I have been following the Clarins Official Instagram account and saw these Water Lip Stains and I was so intrigued. It’s not the first time I have heard or tried a watery lip stain, but the overall packaging got me sold and I have always loved the Clarins Lip oils, I would like to give these a go as well. What I got

This is the Clarins Water Lip Stain in 04 Violet Water. Matte, moisturizing lip stain that stays vibrant until you take it off. Lasts 300 kisses!* Finally, lip colour that won’t kiss off. How I find it

The formula for this water lip stain is very watery and with the small brush applicator I find it a little hard to use without helping to blend it out with my fingers. I usually put it on bare lips and make sure I don’t have any flaky bits as these types of stains will exaggerate these like crazy! It put a few swipes on my lips and then I use my fingertips to blend it out around the edges. This will give a more natural look to the just-bitten lip look. If you want a more intense look, you can apply closer to the edges of your lips and then lightly purse your lips to spread the product, but you will most likely need to use a lip liner because this will bleed for sure since the formula is so watery and the stain is so potent.

As you can see below, the product applies with a super glossy look, but when it dries down, your lips will look natural without that high shine.

You have to be really careful when using and storing this as this stain is no joke very very strong and it won’t be just rubbed off with tissue or washed off with water. That’s why when you use your fingertips to blend it out, your finger will now be bright red/pink. If you don’t want to get your fingers dirty you can use a q-tip to blend.

After application, give it a minute or so to fully dry down before rubbing lips together and drink liquids, etc. The stain is so powerful that it really does last a long time without needing to touch-up. It is a stain, so don’t expect really opaque coverage and a moisturised feeling on the lips. You can of course apply lip balm or gloss over it to give it a bit more shine.

Overall

I totally love the packaging of these lip stains. The clear glass bottle with the metallic cap in the corresponding shade. The formula might not be suitable for everyone and it’s probably not the most convenient application when you are on the go. If you are looking for a more just-bitten lip look, this is perfect for it. Spend a bit of time for application and you are good to go for the rest of the day without needing to touch up (unless you eat really greasy food and keep wiping your lips). It’s sort of a no fuss product, but it does require you to pay attention when applying. The shade range is limited, but I think they are all very beautiful looking shades as a lip tint. You can even use this as a cheek tint too!
