Where I got it
I was recently at the Benefit New Market branch looking for a new brow product and saw that they have launched quite a few Christmas sets and value bundles. The cute packaging popped up and I have been interested in the Boi-ing range when they first launched. However, it was a little difficult for me to access a Benefit counter/shop and with concealers and foundations, it is always best to be able to swatch the colours before buying. So when I saw this little pack, I thought it was perfect to try out the range! RRP $59.
What I got
This is the Benefit Boi-ing Erase Case is shade 2 which contains 4 mini sized concealer products. Airbrush Concealer, Industrial Strength Concealer, Brightening Concealer and Hydrating Concealer. Comes in shade 1 and 2. Boi-ing concealer kit hides every little problem. Whether you want to cover up, airbrush, brighten or hydrate, these 4 boi-ing concealers have the “correct” answer to all your concealing dilemmas. Comes complete with an adorable zip-close, pencil-inspired case.
How I find it
The Airbrush Concealer (1.6g) is a creamy concealer which has an airy light texture. The shade xxx is suitable for light/medium skin tones but it does lean a bit pink. This blends out nicely without looking and feeling cakey.
The Brightening Concealer (1.5g) is a more thick cream concealer, it is almost waxy. The pinky tone of this concealer is supposed to colour correct dark circles so I would assume this is an undereye concealer than an overall face concealer. You do need to use a brush to pick up the product because it is quite hard to pick up with your fingers without fingernails digging in. You might need another concealer on top that is more to your skin tone over this as this is more of a corrective shade which will look quite strange if you leave it looking quite pink.
The Hydrating Concealer (1.4g) is the lightest coverage concealer in this set. It has a hydrating outer circle and the centre bit is the concealer. It is great for the under eye area if you don’t have a big dark circle issue or if you just want a hint of coverage. This actually reminds me of Benefit’s old Fake Up concealer, which I think this is just a repackage of that old one anyway.
Lastly, the Industrial Strength Concealer (1.3g) is the heaviest coverage concealer in the set. It also has an almost waxy formula, but you can certainly dip your fingertips in this pot. But I would recommend using either a flat concealer brush or a dense fluffy brush for a soft-focused flawless finish. The concealer is has a light/medium tone.
Overall
This is a cute set to try all most of Benefit’s concealer products, but the shortfall is that it only comes in shade 1 and 2 which is fair/light and light/medium, nothing for dark/deep skin tones. I seldom finish any concealer products because I simply don’t use concealer a lot and I only ever use it for my undereye area. With cream concealers, I feel that I need to use less because they have generally good coverage. They also tend to be cakeier if I use too much.
With this set, my favourite one would be the Airbrush Concealer because of the medium coverage with a natural finish. I would use the brightening concealer under my foundation when I’m not going for a really full-coverage look because I think having that extra layer of concealer between the brightening concealer and foundation just makes my eye area look heavier and cakey.
For the comparison of the value between this mini set and the full-sized products. The price for the full sized versions is $41 each. Industrial strength is $13.67/gram (1.3g=$17.77), Brightening is $9.31/gram (1.5g=$13.96), Airbrush $8.20/gram (1.6g=$12.30), Hydrating is $11.71/gram (1.4g=$16.39). The total value of this set is $60.42, which means you saved $1.42 and you get a free cute case.
