NIOD Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex 2

Where I got it

‘Twas the lovely Black Friday sales that got me crazy like getting two of these MMHC from NIOD. They were doing a crazy deal where they had a couple of product on extra special discount, but there is a limit on how much you buy. These were RRP USD$40, but I got them for USD$15!! So I got 2!! I also bought their Survival 0 as well, but that will be in another post.

What I got

This is a 15ml bottle of the NIOD Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex (MMHC2). From the Deciem website: MMHC2 is the second generation of MMHC. The formula offers a multi-dimensional approach to topical hyaluronic supplementation by combining 15 forms of hyaluronic compounds, hyaluronic precursors and a hyaluronic support technology in a peptide-charged delivery system. It offers water-based hydration and helps skin surface look plump, elastic, comfortable and uniform.

Amongst the 15 hyaluronic compounds is an extremely rare direct form of hyaluronic acid. Almost universally in the world of beauty, the term “hyaluronic acid” is used loosely to refer to “sodium hyaluronate” which is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. When brands refer to “hyaluronic acid” in their information and marketing materials, in almost every case the reference is to forms of “sodium hyaluronate” which appears in the ingredient listing of the products. While several sodium salt forms of hyaluronic acid are included in MMHC2, the formula also includes 1.0% direct hyaluronic acid which appears as “hyaluronic acid” in the ingredient listing. This inclusion is exceptionally rare for a broad range of formulation and commercial reasons. Direct hyaluronic acid offers pro-repair support far beyond basic water hydration that sodium hyaluronate offers, resulting in improvements to the elastic appearance and the general healthy look of skin.

The formula also contains a hyaluronic support system of adaptogenic water-starved clary sage flavonoids, phenylethanoid glycosides from narrow leaf plantain and several dermal amino acids. This complex system acts as a non-clogging, water-protective barrier to optimize the function of hyaluronic compounds and help support dermal water retention.

How I find it

I have used NIOD skincare before but they were masks and cleansers. Their moisturisers, serums and acids were quite out of my budget. This 15ml bottle on hyaluronic acid serum is usually USD$40! Which is about NZD$! That is pretty outrageous for a 15ml bottle of serum I would say.

Anyway, let’s get back to the product itself. As per the instructions, it recommends to be used after cleansing if you are not using their CAIS. So, since I don’t use that particular product, I would treat this as my hyaluronic acid hydrating serum and apply it after my toner.

Overall

This serum has a very faint yellow tinge and a faint scent. Not a fragrance scent, but more of a medicinal or skincare product scent. I only use about 3-4 drops each time, day and night and 1 bottle should last me about a month or so. Why I said “should”? Because clumsy me spilled about 1/3 of a bottle onto my vanity top and I pretty much shed a tear! This stuff is like $1/ml!!!! I can’t believe it.

I’ve finished my first bottle now, but I would like to stop using this for a while and go back to my The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics or Amino Acid first and see if I can tell the difference. While using this MMHC2, I can say that my skin is definitely hydrated and plump, but the texture of this is not really sophisticated or gives that amazing finish on the skin. I almost feel that I prefer my Amino Acid and Marine Hyaluronics more.

I really can’t justify the high price for this with just one bottle. If that’s the case, I might just go cheaper and use hydrating serums from The Ordinary? What are your thoughts on this product?
