Dr Dennis Gross Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask

Where I got it

I have been exploring products from Dr Dennis Gross lately and after grabbing the Alpha-Beta peel that Wayne Goss has raved about. I got interested and started researching other products that would suit my skin type. I got this at the Mecca Maxima store for $67, it is also available online.

What I got

This is theĀ Dr Dennis Gross Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask (50g). A creamy mask that minimizes the appearance of pores, dissolves blackheads, heals breakouts, and absorbs excess oil to fight acne and enlarged pores – without drying skin.

How I find it

I find this mask quite interesting because it seems to be either an overnight mask or a day time mask that you can wear under makeup. It actually doesn’t have instructions on using this as a 10/15 minute wash off mask.

So I have been using this during the night mainly because I’m not too sure how my skin would look like during the day with this mask on. I will have to wait for a day at home to test it out.

Anyway, for night time use, I would cleanse my face, apply my toner and essence, and they I would also use a Hyaluronic Acid serum on my skin. After that is all absorbed into my skin, I would apply this mask on my problem areas like my jaw and chin area. I don’t use too much, but just enough to cover the area but able to blend it so that it’s not sticky.

Spread evenly as a wash-off mask

During the day, I was actually able to blend this out nicely and it wouldn’t leave a white or ashy look on my skin. However, I would suggest not to put too much layers of makeup over this, maybe just a BB cream or a layer of tinted moisturiser would be enough because it does make the area look a little dry. Also, it would be good to let you skin breath and let the breakout heal without piling on makeup over it.

Overall

Not sure how good it is to be used under makeup, but I like to use it overnight, applied to where I needed it only. I don’t really need to apply this over my forehead and cheeks, but I do use it on my nose (blackheads) and chin/jaw (hormonal breakouts). When I get the odd big one, I will use it overnight and use it in the morning as well. I actually have a similar product in my skincare collection which is the Drying Cream by Mario Badescu (they do great acne-prone or breakout-prone skin products). This cream kind of stinks but I grew to like it. It is sort of a herbal, medicinal smell. It is quite thick with a hint of yellowish oily in the formula if you leave it sitting for too long. I also use the Drying Cream as an overnight treatment, but not during the day as it is way too thick and ashy looking on the skin (there is no way you can blend that out). This stuff works wonders thought, I love it.

This one is probably a little bit more suitable for sensitive skin and can be used all over the skin. It does not sting or burn and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling sensitive or dry as well. I will keep using this and maybe a thicker layer during the night.
