Where I got
I have been contemplating on getting new set of brushes for the longest time but I always put the priority down. After watching a couple of brush set reviews on YouTube, I went researching again and ultimately online shopping. There are heaps of big brands that mainly do brushes, like Sigma, Morphe, Zoeva, Bh Cosmetics, we’ve got out NZ babe Shannon with her XOBeauty brand, Smashbox also does a lot of brushes, MAC, the list goes on.
I was looking for quality as well as affordability, and it was pretty much a toss between Sigma and Morphe. They have a wide range of brushes (a little overwhelming tbh), and the prices are, well, reasonable. They are no the most affordable, but I was hoping they are higher quality and will last longer. Plus, they have this face brush set which has a lot of brushes that I was looking for.
This set is AUD$98 and it is currently out of stock. Total value is AUD$145, saving myself $47 if I’m buying these individually.
What I got
This is the Morphe Babe Faves Face Brush Set. From the Morphe website: Never miss a beat with nine of our best-selling face brushes and one game-changing beauty sponge. Don’t just take our word for it. Listen to other Morphe Babes that totes have your back.
How I find it
This set comes with a total of 9 brushes and a beauty sponge. On top of that, I also ordered a large fluffy chisel brush and an angled brush, which I have pictured below.
All the brushes have a black wooden handle and were individually wrapped with a sticker of its number and name. The fan brush had a little sleeve to help protect its shape, and the beauty sponge came in a plastic box. Let’s got through each brush individually.
M439 Deluxe Buffer (synthetic). The foundation of a bomb complexion. This brush is ideal for liquid and cream foundations, allowing ‘em to feel weightless on skin.
I have already been using this for blending and buffing in my liquid foundation. It is dense but so soft! It blends my liquid foundation out so easily, smoothly and flawlessly! I tried it with a serum foundation, a thicker liquid foundation, and even a stick foundation and it works amazingly.
E3 Precision Pointed Powder (synthetic). Rushing out the door? Grab this multi-tasker to get things done. Fast. Use the side for bronzer and the top for highlighter.
I have been using this brush for loose powder and pressed powder. It has a slightly pointed tip to really pinpoint where you want to put powder on. It distributes the powder softly and evenly without disrupting my foundation. But I will still use a large fluffy brush if I want to apply powder all over my face.
E4 Angled Contour (synthetic). This brush is a true sculptor. Plus, the bristles are firm enough to add colour but fluffy enough to diffuse.
I have been using this for contouring and a bit of bronzing as well. Honestly, I don’t really do contouring, I just apply bronzer to the outer edges of my face, and use the same bronzing shade to my jawline, and the hollows of my cheeks to create dimension. This brush applies products evenly on the areas I need, but it is slightly big for my face contour, so I need to have a light hand and be careful not to move around too much.
M438 Pointed Contour (natural). The brush to have for on-point, precise contouring. Hello, shape and definition.
This is a much easier size to work with for my contour, but I like to use this for my blush, just to pat the colour on my cheeks instead of buffing and sweeping. Soft, fluffy and easy to use.
M523 Tapered Powder (natural). Lays colour exactly where you want it. The shape allows you to get in all the tiny spaces of the face.
This is one brush that I don’t have a clue how or what product to use with at first. From its name, it is a powder brush, so I would assume that it is to apply powder to smaller areas. Since it has shorter bristles, it should produce a more concentrated area of powder instead of a soft area?
M310 Large Soft Fan (natural). A fan favourite for a reason. Sweep on highlighter or sweep away excess powder. It’s up to you, babe.
This is my second fan brush, my first one is from ColourPop which is a much thinner, synthetic brush that is a little scratchy. I love using this for highlighter on my cheekbones and on my body like my collarbone.
M510 Pro Round Blender (natural). Make it pop in the right spot. This brush is perf for that (more precise highlight on the highest points of the face.
Absolutely love this brush for powder highlighter. This brush applies highlighter exactly where I want it to go.
M501 Pro Pointed Blender (natural). This double-duty brush is a nose-it-all. Great for nose highlighting and contour. Just like that.
This one is good for a gentle, subtle nose contouring and a bit of under the cheek contour as well. The pointed end and long bristles make this a really soft touch brush.
M224 Oval Camouflage (synthetic). Apply concealer to one side of the brush and softly stamp where you want instant coverage. Use the clean side to blend it all together. Hide and chic, Morphe Babe. Also doubles as a great brush for a killer cut crease.
I hardly use a concealer brush, but I would use it when I do any cut crease or when I’m highlighting that brow bone area with a bone shade. Just like a usual concealer brush, nothing really special.
Highlight and Contour Beauty Sponge (latex-free). Using the pointed end, apply your liquid foundation or bake with loose powder. Mic drop.
A really soft sponge with useful edges. I usually use a separate sponge for foundation application and baking because I like to use a dry sponge for picking up powder and a damp sponge for blending out the foundation. I like to use this to bake as the straight edge can get product under my eye area in a precise manner.
Overall
So I have been using this set of brushes for well over a month and there are a couple of brushes that I reach for all the time – M439 Deluxe Buffer to blend out my foundation, the E3 Round Powder brush to set my foundation with loose powder, E4 Angled Contour for bronzer and contour, M310 Fan Brush for highlighter and M510 Pro Round Blender also for precise highlighting.
I hardly use the concealer brush because I always use either my fingertips or the pointed end of my beauty sponge. I have recently found some good use for the pointed blender and tapered powder so I am using those more often.
Overall, the quality of these brushes are really good. I have washed them all a couple of times already and none of them have shed a single hair. I will definitely repurchase Morphe brushes and be sure to use discount codes from beauty gurus like Jeffree Star, Patrick Starr, Jacklyn Hill, Nikkitutorials, etc.
