Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser and Lip Glace

Where I got it

Laura Mercier just launched in Mecca Maxima last week and I was super excited! As a Beauty Loop L3 member, I was able to have first access of a couple of items from LM, but the foundation and tinted moisturisers were not available for exclusive access. So I waited for the launch.

Talk about best timing, I booked my complementary makeup application last Thursday which is 2 days after the launch. So I asked my makeup artist to try on all LM. I will describe my makeup at the end of the post, but I will dedicate the top half of the post to the LM products I bought on that trip.

What I got

I bought the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Original ($79) and the Lip Glacé in Sparkling ($46). I was initially interested in their new foundations (Flawless Lumière Radiance-Perfecting Foundation and Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation) but after thinking about how much foundation I already have and have bought recently, I decided that I needed a tinted moisturiser instead. I realised that now many brands nowadays have tinted moisturisers. I am looking for something I can use every day that is hydrating and gives sheer coverage. The Lip Glacé is also an unexpected purchase simply because it looked so nice on my lips when she applied it on for me.

How I find it

Tinted Moisturiser Original (30ml). A multi-tasking formula enhances skin with subtle, sheer colour while hydrating the skin and helping to soften fine lines. Evens and enhances the skin tone but doesn’t hide it, imparting a fresh, natural dewy glow. Is lightweight and long-wearing for comfortable wear that sits in place and stays colour-true all day long

I choose the original version because I wanted a natural look. It also comes in radiant and oil-free versions. I have this in the shade 2W1 Bisque which is shade 6 of 13 in the tinted moisturiser range. The shade match looks great on me, it matches my neck which is a mistake I make all the time while choosing foundation shades. A tinted moisturiser is also quite forgiving when it comes to shade match so a shade lighter or darker won’t make such a big difference in the skin when blended out.

It comes in a squeeze tube which is very convenient. The texture is quite a lotion like and is not thick at all. It looks pigmented, unlike BB or CC creams, but at the same time I can feel how hydrating and moisturising the formula is when it is applied to my face. I can use my fingers to apply and blend, I can use a brush or even a beauty sponge, but I find that the best even coverage can be achieved with fingertips and there is absolutely no streaking or patches when applied with fingers and it’s also effortless and fast.

This is exactly what I’ve been wanting lately. An effortless, fast and fuss-free product that evens out my skin tone and gives my skin that awakened look. I can apply a little bit of concealer if I want to, but most of the time I would just apply my Tatcha The Pearl Eye Treatment which is a tinted eye cream. That would be my weekend base makeup done (except for brows and mascara).

As for longevity, since this is not oil-free or mattifying, my natural oils do come through around the 3-4 hour mark and when it does it just makes my skin look natural instead of that cracking, separating look I can get from more full-coverage foundations. I can easily blot the oil away and powder over without looking cakey – perfect!

Lip Glacé in Sparkling. A nourishing cocktail of moisturising, antioxidant and plumping ingredients ensure lips are kept hydrated and protected from ageing external aggressors throughout the day while looking fuller and juicy. The velvety smooth texture applies evenly to lips without feathering or ever feeling sticky. Can be used for a sheer wash of colour or layered for intense, high-shine colour. Comes in 10 shades.

This is a shimmery lip gloss with multi-shimmers. The base shade is a little pale on my natural lip shade – a little silvery, but it looks amazing on top of a nude lipstick or a mauve lipstick to get that glossy nude look with a hint of sparkle and shimmer. I haven’t bought any lip gloss like this in a long time and I really enjoy the versatility of this shade.

The formula, however, feels great when applied, but it does feel a bit thick and sticky in the lips after a good hour of wearing. You can definitely feel it on your lips when you put it on, but I also tried using it lightly but just tapping it on the centre of my lips and that surely does take away that heavy feeling.

Overall

I’ve been using the tinted moisturiser for at least a week for the weekend and during the week for work. The weather has been a bit hot lately but not humid. I love how it feels on my skin and how it looks. It looks really natural and still provides sheer coverage that evens out my skin tone. I would apply a little bit of concealer under the eyes but nothing too crazy. A light dusting of powder to set everything.

It doesn’t control oil so by about the 4th-hour mark, the oil around my nose and t-zone has already seeped through. The tinted moisturiser looks like it has melted to my skin without looking patchy or separating. If I do need to touch-up for coverage, I will blot and then powder over. I can also apply a bit more tinted moisturiser to add hydration back and also coverage back. Absolutely love this and I will definitely try the oil-free one when I’m finished with this one!

As for the lip gloss, I love the shade but the texture is a little bit thick. It does last for a long time but it is not the most comfortable lip product I’ve worn. I think it reminds me of why I don’t really like lip gloss, but more lip creams, liquid lipsticks and lipsticks. The only way to get around it would be using this thinly over lipstick and remove and reapply before the lip gloss gets too sticky and bunchy.

skincare products used

OK, as for the makeover she started with some really nice skincare. Cleansed my face with Ren 3-in-1 Cleansing Water on cotton pads, then hydrated my face with Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic serum and the Tatcha The Essence. Some Sunday Riley Auto Correct Eye Cream and their CEO Moisturiser. My face was hydrated and moisturised ready for my makeover.

Makeup products used

She asked if there are any particular brand or products I would like to use and I told her I would like to try LM collection. She grabbed the foundation primer, tinted moisturiser, loose powders, concealers, eye primer, caviar sticks and lip products. She also picked out some Hourglass products and NARS products.
