Where I got it
First time I saw these was at Farmers but since I know nothing about their new foundation and concealer collection, I did jump to buy it. Honestly, Revlon is not one of the brands that I am most excited about and I’m always quite sceptical as to why it is within the “higher end” beauty brands within Farmers. Anyway, I saw some reviews after briefly see the range at Farmers and people were loving it! I then saw it again at The Chemist Warehouse and it was a fraction of the usual price in Farmers and Life Pharmacy so I grabbed the foundation first. I tried out the foundation for a few days, loved it and grabbed the concealer in the same range too. The concealer was $18.99, and the foundation was $24.49. Currently, Life Pharmacy is doing a special offer for the foundation and concealer for $30 each, Farmers is also selling these $30 and $24 for the foundation and the concealer. So girl, you know where to go!
What I got
These are the Revlon Photoready Candid Foundation and Concealer in shade 330 Light Honey and 001 Banana. The foundation is 22ml and the concealer is 10mls. Foundation comes in 16 shades and the concealer comes in 5 shades. The foundation shades focus on light to medium skin tones I would say, but it does have 4 deeper shades, but if you have tanned or deep skin tones, you might not be able to find many choices here.
How I find it
First of all the shade range isn’t very large, but I managed to find a shade match that is quite close, maybe it can be a little more neutral, but this is already the warm range for light to medium skin tones. The foundation comes in a squeeze tube and a pump with a clear lid. I don’t see foundations in this sort of packaging often but I actually quite like it (not sure how it will work out when it’s nearly finished though). It is also slightly less product than your usual 30ml liquid foundation which I’m also OK about because often times I won’t be able to finish a bottle of foundation before it expires anyway. The concealer is also in a tube like the foundation, but slimmer. I was expecting a squeeze tube with a pointed tip where the product flows out, but it has a twist off cap with a slight bulbous applicator.
Moving on to the actual formula of both products.
Photoready Candid Foundation in 330 Light Honey. From Farmer.co.nz: “A feel-good foundation that’s infused with antioxidants, anti-pollution and anti-blue light ingredients. A creamy texture that goes on like a moisturizer then blends invisibly to even out skin tone weightlessly. Keeps skin feeling moisturized all day. Medium buildable coverage, natural finish.”
This is a creamy foundation with a natural finish with a moisturised look. I wouldn’t say it’s dewy, but it just looks like healthy skin – not matte and cakey looking at all. I only use 1 pump for the entire face and I dot the product on with my fingertips and then blend it out with a dense round top kabuki brush (loving Morphe atm). It blends out nicely and effortlessly, it doesn’t move around and reduce coverage the more you blend it around. When completely blended, my skin looks really nice and even, no cakiness at all, Medium coverage effectively covers and conceals all the redness on my cheeks and chin. I could wear this without setting with a powder with this natural finish, but if I do set it, it will make my foundation last longer.
Photoready Candid Concealer in 001 Banana. From Farmers.co.nz: “A skin care inspired concealer that’s ultra blendable and ultra-buildable. Caffeine for a built-in pick me up, relieves under-eye puffiness, bags and dark circles. Infused with Vitamin E. Suitable for sensitive skin. Unique doe-foot applicator perfect for applying to the delicate eye area. Medium buildable coverage and natural finish.”
This concealer is very brightening to the under eye area and I really enjoy using this. I have a large, soft rounded applicator and the formula is creamy but not thick. It blends out easily with fingertips or a small concealer brush. It is not extremely high coverage and pigmented which is good because I don’t really enjoy high coverage, thick concealers that are hard to blend. It does get into my creases so I do need to set this with powder. I let the concealer sit for a little bit, then right before I powder or bake I smooth out any concealer that has already got into my creases and then set it with a small pointed powder brush.
Overall
I am honestly surprised with this foundation and concealer combo. If I don’t already have 20 concealers that are still at least 80% full, I would have bought the actual concealer to my skin tone. But if you are considering getting this foundation and concealer from Revlon, I think go right ahead and try out the testers for your shade match and give it a go! The shade range is not super amazing, so you might need to mix shades or buy like a foundation lightener or darkener and adjust the shade yourself (I do this to one of my Chanel foundations – they have really shitty shade range). All in all, I love the coverage and formula of both the foundation and concealer, they are easy to blend and looks almost undetectable on the skin.
