NEW Althea Abloom skincare and Meringue Sponges

If you have been reading my blog, you might know that I am an Althea Angel which means I am an ambassador for Althea Korea. After their latest makeup launch, they are now back with some brand new skincare products! This time, it is Korean’s favourite – sheet masks! Also, these adorable meringue puff makeup sponges (they are sooooo dang cute!) and a BHA blackhead stick.

So I was sent one of each of their latest products to try and review for you guys, I also went and ordered some extras for a giveaway over on my Instagram account (@kittiemui), so go check it out after reading my review.

So there are 4 different sheet masks with this new launch – there is a Watermelon one for hydration and moisture, Peach for anti-blemish, Avocado for nourishing and Lemon Lime for brightening. There is also a BHA Blackhead stick for cleaning of the pores. Last but not least, the cutest addition to the Althea family – meringue puffs, in giant and baby size. These makeup sponges are in shades of baby pink and are super soft.

So let’s start with the sheet masks…

The Water-Me-Long Moisturising Watermelon Mask Sheet claims to be moisturising to the skin. It packs a punch of hydration and moisturization for waterful skin that lasts. A delicious drink for skin with watermelon extract and added lavender to calm the senses.

All of these sheet masks are drenched with the serum or product and the mask sheet holds it all in without much dripping. The mask sheet is soft and slightly stretchy so it can fit around your face. However, I do find that the shape of the mask is a bit too big for me so I had to fold the edges back so that it doesn’t go into my hair. After 10-15mins of wear, these masks are still very moist!

The Ac-Me-Peach Anti-Blemish Peach Mask Sheet claims to purifies and soothes irritated and sensitive skin. Infused with peach extracts and tea tree oil to regulate oil, balance moisture and purify for soft smooth skin. Suitable for all skin types.

A tad bit disappointed that none of these smells like it’s ingredient (watermelon, peach, etc.), but it does have a slight scent to it and each sheet mask smells slightly different. Regardless, some people don’t prefer fragrance in their skincare, but in this case, the scent is very light and it fades out very fast.

Avo-Cuddle-Me Nourishing Avocado Mask Sheet is rich in antioxidants to nourish and protect skin from harmful environmental factors and prevent wrinkles. It is infused with avocado extracts and hibiscus for soft supple skin that glows.

All these masks are so hydrating and I would say that you would need to use sheet masks consistently to see the full spectrum of their results and claims. For example, the anti-blemish mask, you won’t see your pimples disappear after 1 mask and you probably won’t see your skin 2 shades brighter after using the lemon-lime mask. They do work in the long run, just like a moisturiser does.

Sparkle-Me-Bright Brightening Lemon Lime Mask Sheet is a brightening mask clarifies and brighten dull skin to unveil the natural glow from within. The double dose of Vitamin C from lemon and lime extracts banishes dark spots and green tea boosts brightening while calming skin.

There are immediate results to these masks – hydration, moisturisation, clarifying, brightening (temporary) and smoothing. I always wash off the remaining essence from my skin or wipe it off because I find the essence in sheet masks to be too sticky and thick and I hate that feeling. However, with these masks, the essence does get absorbed like a serum/essence, I can do without washing this off, just gently wiping any extra off and continue with the rest of my skincare routine.

Meringue Puffs are high-density latex-free makeup sponges. Comes in Giant and Baby sizes (3s). These are beauty sponges in the shape of meringue puffs. They are in shades of light baby pink and they are honestly very soft. The shape is a little different to your usual beauty blender or beauty sponges but they have a large base for a bigger area application, a pointed tip area for more detailed area application.

I always use these sponges damp to apply and blend foundation and when wet, it does grow in size (middle sponge in the picture below). I use the giant puff or the entire face and the baby puffs for the smaller areas like under the eye, around the nose and maybe to blend concealer around blemishes, etc.

The BHA Blackhead Blaster is a no-pain blackhead and whitehead remover with BHA. It’s gentle and non-irritating formula treats and prevents new blackheads from forming.

This blackhead stick is filled with charcoal powder and the charcoal powder also acts as an exfoliant (you can feel it). I use the stick directly on my damp face – nose, cheeks, chin and area between my brows. I run the stick around the area with a circular motion, then I let the formula kind of sit on my face for about 1 minute before rinsing off. Immediately, my blackheads look cleaner, lighter in colour, my skin feels smooth and clean. Some blackheads come out and maybe popped up and this is when I would use a pore strip if I wanted to because the blackhead stick kind of moves the congestion up.

Overall

Honestly, I really enjoyed the meringue sponges and the blackhead blaster. The sponges are so darn cute and soft and the blackhead blaster is really effective. As for the sheet masks, even though they did not irritate my skin or cause any breakouts, I am a little lazy to do sheet masks during the week. I probably would do once a week in Winter because the sheet mask makes my face feel really cold. They do provide hydration and moisturisation effectively, but for anti-blemish I’m not too sure if I see significant results.

However, if you swear by sheet masks and I know some people do it every second day and their skin just loves it, these ones from Althea is perfect! They are affordable, they are not too heavy and they do plump up the skin with moisture.
