Where I got it
I was shopping with my sister the other day in Botany Town Centre and I wanted to go into L’Occitane to check out if they have any new products. I noticed that they launch products in stores earlier than from the email newsletters. So they launched 4 face mask and scrub products, 1 from their Aqua Reotier range and the other 3 are just standalone products not belonging to a particular range. 1 of them is actually a scrub. The Moisture Mask from the Aqua Reotier range is $75 but the other 3 are $58 each.
If you visit in-stores, they always have great gift sets and value sets. In this case, these 3 masks came in a set which you can swap the purifying mask with the soothing mask (not pictured here). The value of the box set is $199, but it was only for $155, which is a saving of $44 (nearly enough to buy the soothing mask as well!). Otherwise, they do sell little mask pods (7.5ml single-use pods) of each of these masks for $10 which is a way to try the products, but it’s not very good value.
What I got
These are the new face masks from L’Occitane. Aqua Reotier Mineral Moisture Mask, Radiance Scrub and Purifying Mask (all 75ml). These masks all come in glass jars with a screw top lid. I would need to use a spatula to pick up the product, especially the purifying mask unless you dig your fingers in there.
How I find it
Purifying Mask. Exfoliate your skin and eliminate dead cells for soft and healthy skin. The Purifying Mask is made with freshly-cut, organic thyme from Provence, which is known to help reduce blemishes. Apply a fine layer to clean, dry skin and leave on for 5 minutes. The mattifying, purée-like texture immediately absorbs excess sebum and gently exfoliates.
This mask looks appealing already in the jar and the texture is also really great. It has an almost clay-balm texture with bits of crushed thyme pieces in it. You have to scoop it out with a spatula because digging in with fingers is just unhygienic. I use an even layer all over the face and wait for 5 minutes whilst the mask is not dried and I rinse it off with the help of a facial sponge or a washcloth. My skin feels refreshed and clean, my pores look cleaner and my skin doesn’t feel tight or dry.
Radiance Scrub. The Radiance Scrub is an exfoliator that gently removes impurities and dead cells, leaving behind smooth and radiant skin. Apply a thick layer to clean, dry skin and let its exfoliating granules slough away dead cells and leave your complexion looking radiant.
This radiance scrub smells almost good enough to eat! It smells and looks like jam or marmalade and it also feels great on the skin. After cleansing, I apply a generous layer all over dry skin and gently massage the exfoliating granules on the skin. The thick gel-like base ensures that there is enough slip and cushioning so that the granules are not too abrasive to the skin. After rinsing off, my skin feels smooth and soft. This can be used multiple times a week I would say, but you probably don’t need to use a chemical exfoliant after using this.
Mineral Moisture Mask. An ultra-hydrating mask made with mineral-rich Réotier water, hyaluronic acid and water-binding molecules, to intensely quenches skin’s thirst whenever your skin needs it most. Its frosted non-oily texture wakes up your skin and helps to minimise pores appearance. Skin feels recharged with moisture for a healthy-looking glow. Ideal for all skin types which are looking for hydration and softness. Can be used as a night mask or as a hydration shot during 10 minutes to rehydrate the skin.
I knew I had to get this mask right when I saw it. I already love the Aqua Reotier range as I have their day cream already and this mask just looks heavenly! Usually, I use this mask as the last step of my facial mask routine (cleansing mask then followed by moisture or hydrating mask). After cleansing my face, I use the Purifying mask and then followed by this moisture mask for 10 minutes. This can be used as an overnight mask but I find the formula is way too sticky and oily to be left overnight so I prefer to wash it off after 10-15 minutes. My skin does feel much more hydrated and soft after cleansing and there isn’t any sticky residue, but it does feel like there is a layer of protection on the skin.
Overall
Absolutely love this new launch from L’Occitane, everything from packaging to the smell, the colours and the formulas. They do have a soothing mask which I didn’t buy but was nonetheless appealing to me, might be something in the future? Overall, the effectiveness of the masks are great, the Radiance Scrub is gentle and is a joy to use, the Purifying Mask gently cleanses without overdrying the skin and the Moisture Mask provides heaps of hydration immediately and lastingly. The jar packaging is not the most hygienic and it certainly isn’t air-tight so the product will dry out faster and germs will get it. So after opening, it is best to use it on a regular basis to ensure the masks are still fresh.
Besides these issues, I don’t see anything wrong with the products and I would definitely recommend these.
