Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation [sample]

Another foundation sample review here and this is another one I got from Mecca. My first “samples” review was on the Laura Mercier Flawless Lumiere Foundation and the idea behind these samples reviews are basically a quick overview of my first impression of the foundation, shade match, formula, longevity and if I would go and buy a full-size version.

The Sample

From the Mecca website: “A rich, liquid foundation that glides on weightlessly, with full coverage through Hourglass’s innovative formula of coated pigments with just 1/2 of a pump. Available in 32 shades to compliment every skin tone and undertone. Provides a ‘second-skin’ appearance through seamless, smooth application with long-wearing, sweat-proof, waterproof and fade-proof results. $96 for 30ml.

Shade Match

I was shade-matched at Mecca for both the Laura Mercier and the Hourglass Vanish liquid and I got Nude in Hourglass which is pretty much relevant to 2W1.5 Bisque in the Laura Mercier Flawless Lumiere.

My verdict

The shade match is great, it is more of a light-medium shade with a yellow/golden undertone. I usually would go for such a shade as it matches my neck. My face is mostly neutral tone, but I do like to match my neck, hence going with the yellow undertone.

The coverage of this foundation is certainly on the higher end of the spectrum, I would say a high medium and buildable to full coverage. I would never build up a foundation to full coverage because I don’t like full coverage at all, it just looks unnatural to me. I like to use a dense foundation brush for this foundation as it is on the creamy liquid side and I don’t want to dial down the coverage it provides so that my sample would last longer if you know what I mean.

Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation in Nude

It blends out nicely with a brush and it does cover most of my redness and pores, but I can still see blemishes and texture which is something really hard to cover. I generally don’t use a concealer for such a high coverage foundation, I just bring the foundation to my dark circles and set it with powder.

The foundation does have a natural matte finish and does feel weightless on the skin. I do find that it is more obvious that I am wearing foundation around the nose area which is always my problem area. I also have combo-oily skin so after about 4 hours, my oils have already started coming through to affect the longevity of the foundation. All in all, nice foundation, but I probably won’t spend $96 for a full sized bottle.

I hope you like this type of review, let me know which foundation you would like me to try next?
