Where I got it
I am a subscriber to Jeffree Star’s YouTube channel because most of the time I find his content entertaining, but I don’t really try his makeup looks or anything because it’s just not my usual style. Does anyone else do this? Follow all these amazing makeup gurus, like their work but not try it on themselves because it’s never really your thing to wear extravagant makeup, etc.?
Anyway, I forgot if it was his announcement video of this new concealer came first or the waitlist email I got from Beautylish first, I was really interested. When it did launch I didn’t get it straight away because I wanted to know people’s reviews first. They were exactly cheap at $22, but I’ve bought more expensive concealer before anyway. After about 2 months, I went ahead and ordered a shade I thought would suit me. These shades are always sold out and I couldn’t get his loose powder which I will probably get later down the track.
What I got
So, what I’ve got here is the Magic Star concealer by Jeffree Star Cosmetics in shade C9. Helps even out skin tone. Has 20% pigment and can cover tattoos. Anti-ageing properties help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Increased wear time and a self-setting effect keep you looking flawless for hours. Fragrance-free. Paraben free. Talc-free.
How I find it
I mainly use this concealer for the under eye area to conceal dark circles but I also used this to brighten up around the mouth and chin area. The applicator tip is quite pointed so it gets into areas well, but it’s not like I need the concealer o go anywhere specific unless you use it for a cut crease I suppose? If I need to get my concealer to smaller areas, I would think a pointed tip blending sponge of brush would be more useful. There is a little reservoir area to the applicator tip that holds the product for even distribution. It’s not the most innovative design I’ve ever seen, but it does work. The hole in the applicator holds the product in tension so it won’t really drip out.
The shade looks pretty good on my because C8 is for fair-light skin with olive undertones and C10 is already medium skin with olive undertones as well. Both are a little green for my skin tone. It hardy oxidised during wear and I used a translucent loose setting powder over it to set it.
A creamy formula that is not too thick and not drying on application. It leaves you enough time to blend and I do need to set it. However, there is creasing and I haven’t been able to find any concealer that does not crease anyway. As for longevity, after about 3 hours of wear, my skin felt a little dry around the nose and mouth area which I applied the concealer. It doesn’t look dry and flaky, but it feels a little tight. My under eye area looked perfect though and still very bright and super smooth!
Overall
I’m very much impressed by the formula and the longevity in my under eye area. The formula is creamy enough for the under eye area so it doesn’t crack and separate, but dries down enough that it doesn’t move around. I do need to set it with a loose powder, but I didn’t have to do anything to my eye area after that.
I did use this around my face, like on my chin, sides of my mouth and around my nose which wasn’t the best idea. I should really use something a little more hydrating to those areas because these areas move a lot and get touched often. I find that those areas would work better with a foundation instead of concealer.
Overall, I would buy it for the packaging, I mean look at that pink crystal lid and the gold star!!! Even the tube has a crystal-like bottom and it’s just immaculately designed IMO. It does have a lot of product so I think it is reasonably priced for a product that is made in the US, is fragrance-free, cruelty free, paraben free and talc free.
