Where I got it
I was browsing around the Botany Mecca the other day and I was looking through the sheet mask section. I often see it and walk past because most of the time I would use Korean or Asian sheet masks because they do really good sheet masks and they are often very affordable. I was not expecting to see Korean brand sheet masks in Mecca (apparently they are new arrivals), so I grabbed 2 that was available and they were $4 each.
What I got
These are the ByVibes Wonder Bath Super Vegitoks Mask Pack. It doesn’t really say what the differences are, but one is purple and the other is green. I’ve looked up some information online, see below.
How I find it
Ok, first off, the English writing in the back of the mask pack doesn’t really make sense so I won’t bother putting it on my post here. I got all the information from the Mecca website.
Purple version: Powerful purple vegetables in this cleanser and mask duo purify, firm and smooth the complexion. Use the Super Vegitoks Cleanser to remove dirt and impurities and reveal firmer, smoother skin texture. The unique formula transforms to white foam upon contact with the skin for a thorough, deep cleanse. Next up, apply the dense jelly formula mask, with a blend of 10 purple plants including beet, eggplant and blueberry that leaves skin more radiant and firm in a flash.
The cleanser contains 8 oils such as avocado oil, lemon peel oil, orange oil, etc. it also contains a whopping 50 different extracts like broccoli and Brussels sprouts extracts (God knows what they do for the skin?). It also contains iron oxide and red dye for colour.
The sheet mask contains about 10 extracts like blueberry and turmeric extracts and about 15 oils like jojoba seed oil.
Green version: Harnessing the cleansing and hydrating effect of green vegetables, this cleanser and mask duo combines the best of both worlds. Begin with the Super Vegitoks Cleanser, by applying to clean skin. When contact is made, the contents turn from green to white, forming a bubble foam that removes impurities, makeup and dirt to reveal smoother, more clear skin. With a blend of 10 green vegetables, including wheat sprout, lime and spirulina, the Super Vegitoks Mask soaks into the skin, leaving the complexion clear, bright and revitalised.
The cleanser has a ridiculously long list of ingredients including 10 oils such as lemon peel oil, avocado oil, lavender oil, olive and tea tree oil. It also contains at least 40 extracts from all kinds of fruit and vegetables as well as funky things like salmon egg extract and plankton extracts. It also contains the currently most popular ingredient in Korean: Centella Asiatica and some yellow and blue dye (they are about a 3rd from the list.
The sheet mask has 10 extracts and just 2 types of oils. It also contains sodium hyaluronate and glycerin to provide moisture and hydration. A much more simple list of ingredients compared to the cleanser.
The cleanser comes out like a gel in a green or purple colour. It had a herbal scent and is actually quite pleasant. Once you spread it around your skin, it starts to bubble up and there is plenty of product in the packet. I massage my face over the bubbling cleanser and then since off. My face feels clean after rinsing off and it doesn’t strip my skin from moisture.
On with the mask and it is a rather comfortable mask sheet. The shape and size were perfect for my face and it adhered very well without slipping, falling or dripping. I put on the mask after using the cleanser and then leave it for about 20 minutes. Rinse off and I finish with my skincare routine. 90% of the time I rinse off remaining essences from my sheet mask as I often find the residue very sticky.
My skin felt really hydrated and fresh, skin feels clearer and soothed as well. No redness, no irritations on my skin as well.
Overall
The dual product packet is surely very appealing. I like how you can pair it with the corresponding cleanser to get the full benefits of both products. You can get the cleanser separately but Mecca doesn’t stock them.
I liked the cleanser more than the sheet mask to be honest because the sheet mask is just hydrating and I’m not too sure what else it did for my skin. However, with the number of ingredients in the cleanser, I’m not entirely convinced I needed all that to cleanse my face. More than half of the ingredients I didn’t even know can be used in skincare, let alone what benefits they provide
Overall, I think it is quite gimmicky and the ingredients list is there to intimidate you or impress you with no actual claims or research any of that would provide any benefits. I won’t be spending $4 for a sheet mask and one-use cleanser again though.
