111SKIN Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask

Where I got it

This year Mecca has introduced some changes to the rewards scheme – they have removed some of the makeup lessons and applications and replaced them with bonus beauty boxes, each tier has different changes. About 3 weeks ago, I received an email from Mecca stating that as a level 3 member, I am able to claim a free sheet mask from 111skin with any purchase online. No minimum order required, but it is not available in the store.

So I decided to check out that Too Faced Dew You Fresh Glow Translucent Setting Powder and put this in my basket as well. These masks are sold in a pack of 5 for $188 or a single sheet for $39! The most expensive sheet mask I’ve ever used.

How I find it

I was way too excited to try this so I tried it on the night I received it. So after cleansing and toning, I cut the packet open and pulled out the contents. There isn’t any serum dripping from the mask, nor was there any serum left over in the packet.

There was a white plastic backing and a clear plastic backing. There wasn’t any specific instructions to remove which backing first. Hydrogel masks looks thick, but they are actually quite fragile. If you have fingernails, you will easily dig into the mask or tear it. I try not to move the mask a lot so what I do is I open the mask up with the backing sheets still attached, peel off one layer and then peel off the other layer as well. I then hold the outer edge of the mask and try to fit it over my nose first. Then I smooth it up on my forehead, and the my cheeks and then around my jawline.

I usually have issues with fitting the mask sheet around my jaw area and on my nose bridge and with hydrogel masks, it’s even harder because they are less malleable and thicker than usual tissue masks. I try to adjust the mask a bit but keep moving the mask to a minimum because the more you move it around, the easier it will tear it dry out and you won’t be able to make it stick again.

After 20 minutes (I made sure I put it in at least 20mins), I removed it and let the rest of the product absorb into my skin. The hydrogel sheet is not dry, but it does feel tacky and harder, not slippery like before. Then I just use my serum and moisturiser after that. My skin looked hydrated and brightened, the effects didn’t last until the next morning.

Overall

That instant brightening and hydrating effect is visible but unless you have pretty good, clear skin to begin with. This sort of brightening isn’t that clarifying kind of bright. It’s a glowy kind of bright. I would suggest to do a clay mask or a clarifying mask first, get rid of all the gunk and clear the pores first, then use this mask for the full effect.

I would also suggest to use this in the morning or just before a big event instead of the night before because by the time you wake up in the morning, the effects have already faded.
