Too Faced Dew You Fresh Glow Translucent Setting Powder

Where I got it

I have been wanting to get a dewy-look or a glowy-look loose setting powder because my skin has been behaving nicely and I don’t have much breakouts or bumps under my skin so I figured I could rock a bit of an extra glowy look. I have a handful of loose setting powders, some are mattifying and some are just plain translucent with no added shine control or glow. I went into the Mecca store to check out some of the options for glowy setting powders, and there wasn’t a wide range of what I’m looking for. It’s either the Too Faced or Laura Mercier. I went for Too Faced because I simply love their recent fruity collections – Peach Perfect, Dew You, Tutti Fruitti. I think they are so cute and I love the scent and also the packaging. This setting powder is $57 (I’ll get to the value of this and the LM in the last section.).

What I got

This is the Too Faced Dew You Fresh Glow Translucent Setting Powder in Radiant Pearl (9g).  Set makeup, blur imperfections and brighten the complexion with these translucent, illuminating setting powder, infused with watermelon and soothing cucumber extract. The talc-free formula reflects light and leaves the skin with a radiant, soft-focus, photo-ready finish.

Ingredients: Mica, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Silica, Magnesium Myristate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tin Oxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance/Parfum, Water/Aqua/Eau, Butylene Glycol, Aluminum Hydroxide, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract/Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract/Citrullus Lanatus Fruit Extract, Magnesium Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491).

How I find it

The packaging component consist of a screw top lid and a clear plastic container at the bottom. Once you open the lid you will see a protective flap which you dip open to reveal the soft netting for the powder. There is a protective sticker which you pull off and discard, and the powder seems to stick to the soft net until you dip your brush in.

I would suggest to use something to press the powder back in before you use a brush to dip in because that will pick up way too much product. You probably won’t use a damp sponge to dip into it because it might ruin the rest of the product and make that net sticky. Using a dry sponge would also be a little difficult to diffuse the glow unless you are using it as a highlighter?

Overall

Overall, I really liked how the powder looked on my face throughout the day. It gives me a nice subtle glow that makes me look healthy with that faint hint of pink. It doesn’t have any glitter in it, but it looks iridescent. It doesn’t control oil but at the same time it doesn’t make my skin look greasy if you know what I mean.

However, after all the swooning over the beautiful packaging and yummy scent, I had a good look and did a quick comparison online with other loose powders (not just dewy of glowy powders), I noticed that stuff is hella expensive!

So when I looked at the actual weight of the product in this packaging, I was a little surprised that there were less than 10 grams (only 9g). I would’ve expected something like 15 grams? I guess the packaging took most of its space. Then I also checked out the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder Glow as well and it was $67 for 29g of product which is approx $2.30 per gram. Too Faced Dew You is approx. $6.3 per gram which is nearly triple the price (WTF?!). The two products are slightly different, but I don’t see how the price is justified.

The price of this almost makes this a powdered highlighter instead of a setting powder. I had a quick look at my Peach Perfect Mattifying Loose Powder and that one was 29g, which is triple the product and is $2 cheaper. If you work it out, it would cost about $170 for 27g or product which is INSANE!
