MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick

Where I got it

I got this from my local MAC Cosmetics store in Botany Town Centre for $40. I was just browsing and when I saw this collection which I didn’t even know has launched, I was quite interested because I recently ordered the Shiseido ModernMatte Powder lipstick and they seem really similar in terms of their “matte” and “powder” claims. So, I would like to try them both and compare.

What I got

This is the MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss Lipstick in Shocking Revelation. From maccosmetics.com: a moisture-matte weightless lipstick that delivers a romantic blur effortless soft-focus colour. How I find it

As per the MAC website, Shocking Revelation is a clear blue red. When I swatched this at the store, the texture felt rather creamy and it did not skip on the back of my hand. It leaves this semi-matte colour and feels light and not drying at all. I can simply pat around with my fingertips to blend it out and create that hazy, soft-focus look.

I would say that you don’t really need to do much preparation on your lips before using this because it really does feel like a lip balm. However, if you do have flaky lips, I would recommend exfoliating and maybe not apply this as a full-coverage lip colour. Rather, lightly dab it on your lips and then blend it out for a bit of colour but not let it fall into cracks and dry flakes.

Overall

The shade I chose was pretty good for my skin tone and it was actually the last one at the store. There were also 3 other colours already sold out. I like versatile products like this. For example, you can use this as a full-coverage all-over lip colour by applying evenly on the lips, or you can use it to create like a gradient lip, or even use this as a blush colour (really blend it out).

The lipstick does leave a stain on the lips and its longevity is nothing like a liquid matte lipstick. It does transfer, rub off and wear off when you eat or drink, but it doesn’t bleed or run.
