Jema Rose 8+Minute Syn-ake Restoring Eye mask

Where I got it

I have been in this Facebook group for about 2 months now and it is a page set up by the Asian community in mainly the Auckland area for “group purchasing”. Not sure if that’s the proper word for it, but what they do is that sellers post photos and descriptions on what they intend to purchase from overseas (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, etc. You get the point – Asia) and sell them to fellow Asians living in New Zealand. There is a range of products available, from food to clothes, to toys and makeup.

I have used Jema Rose sheet masks before but never knew they had eye masks as well! The seller was offering $28 for 2 boxes of eye mask as well as an ion eye-roller.

What I got

I have 2 boxes of the Jema Rose 8+Minute SYN-AKE Restoring Eye Mask and an Ion Eye Roller. There are 5 pairs of eye mask in each box and they are individually packed with 8ml of serum in each set. 8+Minute Syn-ake Restoring Eye mask contains potent active ingredients that improve skin elastin and collagen regenerating. The serum provides skin elasticity and nutrition via SYN-AKE peptide, a synthetic form of snake venom. This works by reducing the muscular contractions around the eyes; thereby keeping the skin smooth and preventing the visible formation or deepening of wrinkles.

How I find it

There are two compartments in each packet and the serum is separated from the cloth patches. It’s been really popular lately that these sheet masks or patches are only mixed together just before use (i.e Estée Lauder ANR Eye masks, Garnier has come up with one, and Huxley which is my first two-compartment mask).

So after cleansing and toning. I like to apply my serums as well, then I put on the eye mask. What you need to do is put the packet right side up, and long side towards you. Then you fold 1/3 of the way up squeezing all the serum up to the 2/3 part of the packet. Then keeping the pressure, fold the remaining 1/3 up and start pushing sideways and force the serum to push through the seal and into the compartment where the patches are. Once the serum is in, gently massage the packet and let the patch absorb the serum.

Cut open the packet carefully and pull out the patches. Put the smaller end closer to the inner corner of the eyes. Some people like to focus on the outer edge of the eye area to focus on the fine lines, but I like to bring it closer to deal with hydration around the inner eye area and plump up the delicate skin area.

Leave that on for 8-15 minutes, while you do that, you can use the eye-roller to gently massage the area. Remember to be really gentle and no tugging the skin around the eye area. When the time is up, remove the patches and pat remaining serum into the skin to absorb. I usually wash off a sheet mask, but I didn’t find the need to wash this off. The serum doesn’t feel sticky at all but it did take a bit of time to absorb.

Overall

The eye mask provides really good hydration to the eye area but with the amount of serum it has, I think it’s a little excessive. I would suggest using the rest of the serum around the face or body so that you don’t waste it. However, I probably won’t use an eye mask daily because my eye area is prone to getting white heads and little bumps.

The material of the eye mask patch is really quite interesting. It’s not a simple flat tissue or a piece of fabric, it is really tightly woven and feels a little lumpy. I tried stretching it, but it wouldn’t really move and will not tear. They look pretty invisible when I have it on so I can pop them on after I cleanse and moisturise my face at night and then watch some TV with hubby without him even detecting it (behind my glasses of course). I wouldn’t leave this on for over 15 minutes because it will dry out and cause the eye area to dry out as well.
