After trying out the Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara, I fell in love and was going to repurchase it. But when I was about to add the mascara to my cart, I saw this – the curling mascara. So I popped this one in instead! I needed some curling too, so I might as well do a comparison of the two. This one here is $48 and I got it from Meccabeauty.co.nz.
What I got
This is the Kevyn Aucoin The Curling Mascara. With advanced technology from Japan, this groundbreaking mascara uses a protein-based formula with lash-building fibres to separate and define each lash. As it dries, the pitch-black mascara dramatically lengthens and curls each individual lash, ‘shrink-wrapping’ them without weighing them down. Its invincible staying power means lashes keep their curl all day, without smudging or flaking, and the tubing formula allows for quick and easy removal at the end of the day.
How I find it
This one is almost exactly like the Volume mascara in terms of the packaging, brush, formula and finish. I love using this with my favourite primer because it helps to keep the curl because most mascaras weigh my lashes down, even with Kevyn Aucoin mascaras. The brush head is significantly larger than that of the volume version and I actually prefer that on more. I tried using this mascara on its own after curling, but I don’t see any significant help with the curl of my lashes or hold of my curls. It doesn’t smudge or flake or melt that’s for sure, just like the Volumizing one, but I cannot see the difference between them.
Overall
In my opinion, from using both the Volume and Curling mascara for at least 6 months now, both formulas are really similar on my sparse and straight lashes. It does provide some lengthening and separation, but I did not notice anything special in the curling department. Actually, I prefer the volume mascara over this because I like the smaller brush head which makes it easier to reach the smaller lashes around my eyes.
Both formulas are waterproof and do not melt or flake on my eyes. Even though it says it is a tubing formula, I wasn’t able to see the mascara tubes sliding off my lashes as the Blinc mascara do (the original, ultimate tubing mascara). My cleansing oil does loosen up the mascara, but there is always residue on my lashes or around my eyes. Unless I use a washcloth to gently rub my face, I need to follow up with micellar water around my eye area to remove any residue.
I have already repurchased the Volume mascara and I will continue to do so because I love this mascara a lot! I have since found a similar one by MAC – Extended Play Perm Me Up mascara. It is volumizing, separating and stays on my lashes perfectly.
