Where I got it
I picked this baby up from my local Farmers where they have a counter for skincare and makeup. Farmers doesn’t do online shopping for Dior and Farmers so I wasn’t even able to check for prices beforehand.
Nevertheless, I wanted to try this mascara badly! I have heard rave reviews of the overcurl mascara for years and years, but they always seem to be for the original version, not the waterproof version. Now, I have watched review videos of people swearing by this for the oily eyelids, watery eyes that this will not smudge, budge, move, melt, etc. Therefore I am expecting great results. However, I am extremely skeptical with my mascaras, if they melt, I won’t be able to use it and I will need to give it away. So here we are, $65 later, I will be testing and reviewing the Iconic Overcurl mascara.
What I got
This is the Dior Beauty Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara in 091 Over Black. Also comes in brown and blue. Diorshow Iconic Overcurl pushes the limits of curl to the extreme. Its incurved brush delivers exceptional curling power for instant lash-styling along the entire fringe. Enriched with K Polymers that boast tensor, sheathing and fixative properties, its volume-boosting formula instantly plumps and shapes lashes for bowl-you-over curl. Its restructuring lash-care ingredients work deeply to deliver even more spectacular curl. Easy to remove with warm water or makeup remover.
How I find it
As usual, I curl my lashes and apply my mascara base, let that dry down for a bit then use about 2 coats of mascara over the top. I usually will not use any more than 2 coats because that would weight my lashes down. The mascara base I use has amazing curl and hold effect otherwise any other mascara I use would certainly weigh them down and start to melt to my under eye area.
The simple yet elegant mascara tube is easy to maneuver and comfortable to hold. It’s not too heavy and not too light. The mascara formula is a little wet to start with but I know this happens when you use a new mascara and I hope it does dry down a little after few uses. I prefer a gel formula or a slightly drier formula so that it doesn’t get messy easily and dries on my lashes faster. My lashes are short so I always get it on my eyelids or under my eye area.
After the 2 coats, my lashes looked longer and more defined. They are separated but I can’t really say they are super curly. I am not overly bothered by that but it does give me a nice volume and a fanned-out look which I love. Let’s see how it lasts on my eyes!
Overall
So after about 2 hours I checked my mascara and general eye area for any smudged, flaking or melting, and I find nothing! At around 4 hours I see a little transfer to my under eye area but it’s very minimal. Finally when I usually take my makeup off at around 4pm, it’s already been about 10 hours, the mascara is still going very good it’s still curled and pointing up just like when I first applied it. Lashes are not stuck together and there is just a minimal transfer/melting to my under eye area.
When I try to remove the mascara, I used my cleansing oil (currently using L’Occitane which isn’t my favourite) and it doesn’t seem to remove all of the mascara and I had black stains under my eye area and heaps of leftover mascara of my lashes and lashline area. I really had to use an eye makeup remover on a cotton pad and q-tip to remove all of the residues to get a fully clean eye area. Next time, I either have to remove the mascara first with a makeup remover or I need to use a better cleansing oil and really work the product in.
Overall, I like the mascara, but it wasn’t as hyped up as I thought it would be. I was expecting amazing length and that fanned out look, but at least it did stay put on my lashes so I’m good. This could be one that I repurchase in the future, but right now I might just stick with my Kevyn Aucoin and MAC Extended Play as they are more affordable and works just as good.
