Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray

Where I got it

I picked this up from Adorebeauty.co.nz after reading one of their BeautyIQ blog posts (This Product Won’t Let The Humidity Mess With Your Hair Anymore). I did a quick search online of this product – YouTube, blog posts and retailers. There are retailers in New Zealand that stocks Color Wow products, but this is quite a new product from their range, and so far I couldn’t find any that is stocking this in retail. I trust AdoreBeauty for beauty products and they were also doing a free sample size Aspect Purastat cleanser PLUS free shipping so I ordered from them. I order this on Wednesday for $62.95 and it arrived on Monday the following week.

How I find it

Before I review the product, let me just describe my natural hair and my current hair issues. I am Asian and I have frizzy, wavy hair that is quite coarse. I have long hair past my shoulders and I will continue to have long hair because I like the option to tie it up. I get the keratin treatment every 6 months with my hairdresser for at least 3 years now and I have not dyed my hair for at least 3 years as well. I stopped using heat iron or curling irons because my hair would usually fry and get super dry and unhealthy every time I use it. The only heat product I use is my blow dryer.

I wash my hair every 2-3 days and I use SLS-free shampoo and condition only the mid-lengths to ends of my hair because I also get a bit of oily scalp. After washing my hair, I alternate between the Kerastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil or the Kerastase Nutritive 8hr Magic Night Serum, then I blow dry.

Alright, let’s test out this product. You are supposed to use this on washed, damp hair. Spray into the hair to saturate the strands, use a hairbrush or comb to evenly distribute. The consistency of the product is very watery and hardly has a scent (perfect!) it also doesn’t dry down with any residue or texture (extra points!). So I sectioned my hair into 4 parts, top/bottom, left/right. I saturate each section with the spray (quite a nice spray, not a squirt) and then just blow dry with a paddle brush pulling it tight and point the blow dryer downwards. You can use a round brush too if you want a bit of shape, just remember to pull the hair as you blow-dry.

It takes me the same time as I usually do to blow dry my hair, but you have to make sure it’s fully dry to get that super sleek and shiny look. You can also run a heat iron through your hair to get that super straight and mirror shine. I find that I didn’t need to do that with my hair and I am already very pleased with the results!My hair feels smooth, soft, weightless yet not limp. There is no scent, no residue, no texture which is perfect. It doesn’t provide hold so if you need to style your hair any other way, you need to add your own hair product.

I went to sleep with perfectly blow-dried hair and the next morning my hair was looking still looking superb and shiny! I went for a short run in the morning and the little bit of sweat on my head usually messes up with my hair sometimes, but my hair still looked like it was freshly blow-dried. The next day I noticed that my scrunchie doesn’t want to stay put and wants to slip down because my hair was so silky smooth! But I can feel that it is getting a little greasy because I kept touching it

On the 3rd day, I washed it because my roots were getting oily. My hair has that shine, but not that heathy shine, more like an oily shine lol. My hair didn’t feel any different while I washed it and I didn’t use the Dream Coat again. I just blow dry with a bit of hair oil and my hair still looks amazing! I am super impressed! I will have to see how many washes it lasts my hair!

Overall

So far, from the first use, I am super impressed! That crazy shine and smoothness it gives! It made my hair super manageable and felt like I just had my keratin treatment done a few days ago! The fact that the product did not leave any sticky residue or texture to the hair is quite extraordinary. After the second wash, my hair still looks and feels nice, but it’s not as sleek and super smooth as the first use, I use a paddle brush to blowdry my hair and it still gives that beautiful shine.  I can feel that the product has fully worn off after the 3rd shampoo because it no longer has that crazy shine and smoothness. I have yet to try it out in really humid weather as we are still in summer and it’s a rather dry summer. I see stormy weather coming in the weekend, maybe I will test it out this weekend!

Honestly, I have never come across something like this before and I am truely amazed, it really knocked my socks off. I will definitely recommend this to my sisters and friends and see how well it works on their hair.
