Dr Lewinn’s Reversaderm Glycolic Cleanser

Where I got it

I got this from the Chemist Warehouse for $21.44 (RRP $39.99). I used to see this brand in Farmers, but I don’t think they have it anymore? I’m not sure, but this is not a brand that I am very familiar with, I might have tried some of the products before, but I was overly impressed and the packaging did not appeal to me. However, these look like new packaging and new formulations and they were also on sale as well, so I picked up one of their cleansers.

What I got

This is the Dr Lewinn’s Reversaderm Glycolic Cleanser (120ml). Reversaderm Glycolic Cleanser is a highly effective cleanser containing 12% Glycolic Acid, an Alpha Hydroxy Acid, for a deep micro-exfoliating cleanse. How I find it

I actually had no idea what I was expecting with this cleanser because it didn’t indicate if it was a gel cleanser or foaming cleanser or even a milky cleaser. I am actually very impressed with the 12% glycolic in here, but I know that as a cleanser, you will usually wash this off within a minute or two, therefore the AHA in here wouldn’t as effective, or as strong as it seems. I am not currently using an AHA or BHA cleanser simply because I haven’t actually bought one that took my interest yet, but I also prefer my way of exfoliation in the form of a exfoliating serum or a toner. However, let’s find out how this works!

First off, the packaging is beautiful, it has this silvery purple fading down to this reflective silver bottle. It comes with a cap and a pump inside and it is an airless pump so you can see that there is a bottle inside a bottle. The packaging may make it look a little bigger than it really is (120ml), but in actual fact, this does last a long time! So it says you can use this day and night, first started only using this at night because I know AHAs can cause skin to be sensitive to the sun. I used it a couple of times at night and I started using this during the day as well. I always use an SPF during the day too.

This milky cleanser has a slight stringent scent to it, like a pineapple type of scent, but it’s not strong. I like to pump about 6-7 times onto my damp hands and then massage it all over my face. When I use it at night, I like to do my oil cleanse at the sink and then apply this cleanser all over my face and jump into the shower, wash my body and then rinse the cleanser off so that the AHA can do its work to exfoliate the skin.

Overall

If my skin is acting normal with no active breakouts or sensitivity, I could not feel any irritations. However, there was this one time, I accidentally tugged off a scab from a pimple while oil cleansing, I applied this cleanser and it did sting a little, but it was bearable. If you have sensitive skin, make sure you patch test this and maybe only use this a few times a week, not daily because everyone’s skin reactives differently with acids and the concentration.

My skin is very acclimatised with AHAs and BHAs, so I will always use either an acid toner or serum after this cleanser. Honestly, I would prefer to use an acid toner or serum because they stay on the face longer and they do require a longer time to work. I think this is a nice introduction to AHAs and if you use it as a leave-on cleanser, like a flash mask, it could perform much better than a cleanser you rinse right off.
