Where I got it
I have actually been wanting go get one before the Covid19 lockdown as Strathberry were doing a 20% off discount code promo, but I decided not to because I couldn’t get free shipping as the total order was less than £150 and I figured I could wait a little to see if I really liked to use a card holder or really wanted one from Strathberry. Needless to say, I succumbed to getting two of them.. New Zealand went on lockdown pretty much around the same time as the UK (23/3 for UK and 25/3 for NZ), so there was a short time that Strathberry had announced on their website that their online shopping were suspended until further notice. I think it was about 2 weeks or so later, they reopened their online shipping and had a 20% off on a wide range of products from their bags to silk scarves and cashmere wraps. I wanted to get their logo scarf, but they were sold out unfortunately.
Packaging and shipping
I ended up picking up two of their card holders because I really enjoy using card holders and at 20%, they are quite nicely priced. They are usually £80 each and it came down to £64 each and I was charged £15 for shipping which, to my surprise, arrived within 4 days all the way from the UK via FedEx. I’ve had international orders form UK and US that are still in courier limbo for at least 3 weeks. Anyway, my entire order came to around NZD$300.83, and no custom charges.
It came in a bigger cardboard box and inside there are 2 more smaller cardboard boxes containing an individual card holder. Once I open the box, it contains their usual Thank You card and a little note behind it. Plenty of black tissue paper to fill up the empty spaces and the card holders are in yet another cardboard box which is a more sturdy one with the Strathberry logo. This is the actual box where I will keep my card holder when I’m not using them. They do not come with dust bags and they are in immaculate condition.
Design and Material
Strathberry leather card holders are 100% calf leather made in Spain, they are currently expanding their materials to denim for their handbags, but not for their small leather goods so I’m not sure if things are going down that track as well. The calf leather is really soft and malliable,it is really smooth to the touch with that smoth leather texture. They are 10.5cm x 7cm in size and they seem to fit more than my YSL Monogram card holder because it is so much more softer. I can easily slip 2 cards in any compartment without trying.
As for the colourway, the Salmon/Sky Blue/ Sage one is limited edition SS20 colourway, and Ruby is a permanent colourway. I fell in love with the pastel colourway which is something I don’t have, and the ruby is a lovely bright red that I also don’t have and looks pretty chic and bold. They both have really good stitching all around the case and it is not leather lined, it is a smooth sort of nylon like material I would say. Therefore where they claim to be 100% calf leather, doesn’t mean the entire thing is made of leather, but only where IT IS leather, it is 100% calf leather.
Practicality and style
I really love these simple card holders that are slim and compact because that is exactly when I want to use a card holder. I can easily fit these into my small crossbody bag, just my jacket pocket or even just in my hands. The leather is really smooth for both colourway, but the texture of the salmon one a bit more refined that the Ruby one. The lighter colourway is great for a more casual look in my opinion and I absolutely love the salmon pink and the sage combination. I have been wanting something a little lighter colour, a bit fun, but not too childish so this is quite girly and still very grown up. The red one on the other hand is more sophisticated IMO, it is bold and can look much more grown up. It is a really beautiful solid red with red stitching, the gold Strathberry logo stamp adds a subtle hint of glam as well and I really like this for maybe a night out.
