Where I got it

I have seen the ads for this brand for a long time all over facebook, IG and other influencers. The brand is owned by Edna Stewart who is a kick-ass girl-boss who owns Edni Swim, which is swimwear brand. She is also on the Netflix Girl-boss series, but I don’t have Netflix so I haven’t watched any of it. I also follow her on IG becuase she’s got an amazing body and she looks gorgeous!

Her body care range started with 4 products: a body scrub, a day-time moisturiser with SPF30, an after-sun body oil and a body moisturiser. They have also recently added a new self-tanning mousse product to their collection as well. All of their products are made with real whiskey. It claims to have antiseptic properties to control excess oil on the skin and help prevent pimpes and acne. Whiskey can even fight existing acne and sooth any kind of inflammation on the skin by removing the bacteria and dirt. Whiskey is NZ sourced.

I ordered the products directly from the website. I have seen their products on NZsale or Onceit for just a little cheaper, but unless it is significantly cheaper, I prefer to purchase direct from the source to ensure quality and authenticity. I ordered on 22nd March (just before the lockdown), but unfortunately I directed this to my workplace and it was closed on 23rd March, so it is probably sitting in the courier depot at the moment and I’m not sure when I will get to see it. As for the prices, all of their products on their own is $34, including the new self-tanning mousse. They also come in bundles as well which you get a better deal. I actually don’t use body oils a lot so I decided to purchase the Before+Always bundle (scrub and moisturiser, $60) and During (moisturiser with SPF, $34).

What I got

These are the ed&i Body range – Before, During and Always (all 250ml). “We made it our mission to create a transformative body care system that gives all women body confidence. Whiskey – When it comes to skincare, the antiseptic properties of shikey control the excess oil on the skin and help prevent pimples and acne. Whiskey can even fight the existing acne and soothe any kind of inflammation on the skin by removing the bacteria and dirt. The whiskey we used in ed&i body is also NZ sourced.” All products are vegan and cruelty-free, made in New Zealand.

How I find it

BEFORE – Dry Body Scrub (250ml). Your perfect day starts with a gentle dry application of this delicious exfoliating scrub. Massage it all over to prep and care for your skin, letting the whisky cacao fragrance set the mood as it shamelessly seduces your senses. Sweet almond is full of vitamin E and A. Vitamin E is an extremely powerful antioxidant which keeps your skin cells healthy and protects your skin from UV radiation and damage. Hazelnut oil is loaded with skin nourishing vitamins and essential fatty acids that helps protect the skin against sun. Can be used as a dry scrub or wet scrub.

I love a body scrub and I use one about once a week in the shower. I love the idea of a dry body scrub, but I felt it would be too messy and fussy. The instructions for the dry scrub is to apply on dry skin and leave on for 10 minutes – who has 10 minutes for just hanging out doing nothing with scrub all over your naked body?? Anway, I love to hop into the shower, and use this scrub on wet skin. This is not made for use on the face, only the body.

The bottle comes with a pump and I was a little surprised to dispense a body scrub with a pump because usually body scrubs are quite chunky and a pump may not be the best. I did a few pumps to get the pump moving and then this smooth looking chocolate cream came out! I gentle smoothed it on my skin with my hands and I can feel how fine the granules are. The scrub feels so good on my skin and the chocolate cream-like texture is quite addictive. I do need to use quite a few pumps to cover my body so o don’t think this bottle will last me very long.

DURING – Sunscreen SPF30 (250ml). The ritual continues with our dreamy SPF cream. Unbelievably light to the touch, it’s packed with naturally hydrating botanicals to shield and protect, while bringing your gorgeous inner glow to the surface. Apply generously whenever skin meets sun, and top up every 2 to 3 hours. (No excuses!). Sweet almond is full of vitamin E and A. Vitamin E is an extremely powerful antioxidant which keeps your skin cells healthy and protects your skin from UV radiation and damage. Macadamia nut seed oil has vitamin E which is both an antioxidant and essential nutrient. Macadamia oil contains phytosterols which is full of anti-inflammatory properties.

Initially, I thought this was a moisturiser with SPF30, but in fact it is marketed as only a sunscreen. It does provide moisture from the oils and butters, but if you need more moisture and hydration, you might need to use ALWAYS beforehand. The colour is a creamy pale yellow colour and it smells of nuts and cacao with a hint of sunscreen scent. This is a chemical sunscreen so it doesn’t leave a white cast, but compared to the colour of the Always Body Moisturiser, you can certainly see that the During Body Sunscreen has a slightly more solid white base.

Besides all the textures and scents of this body sunscreen, I enjoy using this a lot. It feels very much like a moisturiser and it glides onto the skin easily and spreads smoothly. Nothing like those thick sunscreen that will never dry down. It feels smooth to the touch once it is dried down and is not sticky to the touch.

ALWAYS – Body Moisturiser (250ml). Your body and skin can never have too much attention. Keep this buttery body balm on hand to keep yours smooth, supple and flawless. The unique formulation means you can apply it as often as you like to lock in hydration and maintain your natural gorgeousness. Rosemary has been hailed since ancient times for its medicinal properties. Rosemary is used to help alleviate muscle pain, improve memory, boost the immunity and circulatory system, has anti-inflammatory compounds, which are thought to help boost and improve blood circulation. Sunflower seed oil is high in omega-6 (linoleic) fatty acid and vitamin E. Omega-6 acid helps decrease inflammation in the skin and enhances the development of new skin cells.

This body moisturiser is packed with nourishing oils and it does make my skin feel hydrated and nourished. The moisturiser is more of a creamy lotion, so it is thicker and if you have dry skin, you will feel soothed. I love to put this in my dry feet at night and put on some socks because of how occlusive this lotion is. It makes my feet feel soft and moisturised in the morning, and it also smells nice! Of course, it’s better to wash it off in the morning because it does contain fragrance and if combined with sweat and dirt during the day, that doesn’t sound like a good mixture!

Overall

I really like to products and I was actually pleasantly surprised that I like the body scrub most. I love nearly everything about it from the scent, the texture, the colour, and how smooth my body feels afterwards without feeling like I scrubbed a layer of my skin off. The only thing I would wish for is maybe a different type of packaging. Actually, I would prefer a squeeze bottle of all of these products because of their consistency. It is on the thicker side and a pump usually cannot get all the product out from this long, slim bottle. You can hardly get a spoon that can reach to the bottle and you either need to shake the rest of the product out or tip it upside down and wait for it to slide/drop down.

Besides the packaging complain, I also really love the moisturiser and the sunscreen. Personally I like to use the moisturiser at night and the sunscreen during the day, because I find the sunscreen is also quite moisturising.
