Where I got it
I order this from the Rarebeauty website directly, shipped it to YouShop and sent it to me in New Zealand because RareBeauty does not ship internationally at the moment (sucks). I ordered this on 18/9/20 and it arrived at the Oregon warehouse on 23/9/20 (free US shipping with orders over USD$50). Apparently, they claim that the Liquid Blush contains flammable ingredients and therefore cannot be shipped. I was given the option to either dispose of the item or send it to another forwarding company that would ship it at my own cost. I had never come across an issue like this with all the previous skincare and makeup I ship from the US. I had no choice but to ask them to dispose of the brand-new blush I paid $20 for. SIGH.
For the rest of the products, I will consolidate with my Naturium order, and hopefully nothing in that order is freaking flammable or poisonous. The total order was USD$65 which was NZD$97.41 at the current currency exchange. Shipping with YouShop was $66.77 and I paid for the delivery on 28/9/20 and it arrived on 7/10/20. I would say the total cost for these two products including shipping was about $100. No absolutely thrilled about the price, so hopefully I will love these.
What I got
I picked up a couple of products from Rare Beauty Makeup – Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation in shade 180W and With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm in Empathy. All of their products are vegan and cruelty-free, and all three of the products I picked up are paraben-free. Because the people at the US YouShop warehouse has opened my package to discard the blush that was flammable, the contents has been moved around. But inside, there is a linen drawstring bag with the Rare Beauty name and logo as well as a note from Selena Gomez.

How I find it
Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation. The swatch on my hand was quite light and I thought “oh-no, this is going to be too pale on me”. The texture was really really light and almost watery. It is a weightless foundation so there is a little metal ball that you need to shake up to get the formula to mix and blend. There is a large doe-foot applicator similar to the famous Tarte ShapeTape. I swiped the product on the back of my hand and then used a dense foundation brush to apply the foundation.
First time I tried it, I didn’t use any primer, just my skincare and sunscreen and then I used my Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation brush to apply all over my face. The foundation seemed to sit on my pores and created dry patches all over my face! It even sank in on the sides of my nose right when I applied it! It was quite disastrous! It didn’t improve during the day, but it did not worsen, but for sure I will try something different the next time I try it.
Alright, the second time I tried it, I used the same sunscreen and skincare underneath, but I added the Tatcha Silk Canvas primer. I used the same brush and the same thing happened. The foundation appears to sit on my skin and gets moved around by my foundation brush. Looks like I have more dry skin than I actually do and it bugs me. I tried to add some moisture to it by using a hydrating facial spray and see if it helps. It seems to help a little but I’m still going to try again tomorrow.
Third try. I exfoliated my face beforehand and applied a hydrating primer (CoverFx Water Cloud Primer) to make sure my skin is in good condition. I used a different brush (dense buffing brush) and it did not help as well. My skin looked and feel dry and flaky and it usually doesn’t do that. If I didn’t apply foundation, my skin looks nice and supple.
I experimented it a couple of times more for the rest of the week and I finally figured it was the brush that I used was causing this issue. This really lightweight formula applies much better on my skin with a damp makeup sponge instead of a brush. The stamping and pressing motion is much more forgiving compared to a sweeping or buffing motion with a brush. My skin looks much better with no streaks. The formula does still bunch up a little bit on my chin and on the sides of my nose.
With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm (Empathy). This lip balm is really smooth and glossy on the lips. It truely feels like a lip balm but has a nice pigment to it. It feels really moisturising and the shade suits me perfectly! The bullet had a gentle magnetic closure and it is really easy to grab and pull.
Overall
I’m a little disappointed to be honest, but once I got it to work, the foundation looks decent on my skin from a distance and it doesn’t make my skin oily even after a few hours of wear. It stay on the skin quite well as it is doesn’t really budge, but at the same time it doesn’t improve when mixed with my natural sebum. Sometimes with foundation formulas that are on the dry side, when it mixes with my natural oils, they tend to look really nice, but this one doesn’t really. The sahde I picked was a little on the pale side, but because it is sheer coverage, it doesn’t make me look sickly or ghostly. I would say that if you have dry skin or even dry patches around your skin, to avoid this foundation because I couldn’t even get it to work with the moistu hydrating primer I have.
As for the dewy lip balm, I’m in love. The warm pink shade looks great on my skin tone and my natural lip tone. It is super moisturising, but it does wear off because it is not a long-wear lipstick. Reapplying is no issue and does not bunch up the colours at all. I have this in my handbag now for everyday use.
Have you tried this makeup range by Selena Gomez? What did you think of it? If you haven’t, which product would you consider trying?
