Where I got it
I have been interested in this foundation when it first launched, but it’s a little on the expensive side at $80 on Sephora.co.nz, so I put it on my wishlist. A few weeks ago, Sephora was doing triple points for all purchases so I decided to try it out. I have tried a small sample of the foundation with the primer as well and thought the finish and shade match was pretty good (lucky me, the sample was 2N, which is pretty much my perfect shade match).
What I got
This is the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation in shade 2 Neutral (30ml). The Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is the Dior makeup artists’ secret weapon to create an instantly flawless complexion with ultra-buildable coverage, from a natural nude glow to high-coverage perfection. The Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is tested and approved by 100% of Dior professional makeup artists. With its fluid texture and second skin finish, this ultra-buildable foundation offers custom-made intensity. Enriched with beauty-enhancing pigments, the formula fuses with skin that glows for a perfect, natural complexion in real life and through the camera’s lens. The waterproof formula of the Dior Backstage Face & Body foundation creates an invisible mesh on the skin and resists extreme conditions: workout sessions, water, extreme temperatures and humid environments. It even resists the bright lights both backstage and above the catwalk. Comes in 40 shades.
How I find it
When I first tried this foundation out from a small sample packet, it came with the primer which was also very nice, but I decided not to get the primer this time. Shade 2N Neutral fits me perfectly and looks so natural without that “tone up” effect. The packaging of this foundation is really quite interesting and I would say that it really does feel very “backstage” because of the squeeze bottle packaging. It is really easy to dispense your desired amount and the formula is quite fluid.
From the website, there are instructions on how to achieve 3 different level of coverage – sheer coverage with fingers, medium coverage with a foundation brush and full coverage with 3 layers of product using a foundation brush. I usually go for sheer to medium coverage on a day to day basis and maybe a good medium in the weekend if I have church or meeting with friends and lunch, etc. Otherwise, I prefer a low-maintenance, sheer coverage because I prefer that minimal-effort natural makeup look.
I like to use a hydrating primer or a blurring primer underneath and then I use about 1 pea-sized amount of foundation to the back of my hand, dot that all over my face and then blend using a dense round-top brush. The foundation blends flawlessly and effortlessly over the face and gives this natural finish to the skin. I love how it lets my skin show through and it evens out my skintone quite well. I can build up around my cheek area where I want to cover my redness and I will use a concealer to my blemishes and dark circles.
Overall
I love this foundation and when used with the primer, it makes my skin look really good, not in a absolutely flawless way, but a really natural way. It has a natural finish and it covers the redness on my cheeks, the discolouration around my jawline and doesn’t gather in my pores and fine lines.
I am so impressed with Dior foundations so far – this one and their Dior Forever foundation are both impressive.
