Where I got it
I purchased this from an Asian FB group that sells all kinds of stuff. All the sellers are New Zealand based and they bring in products like food, clothing, household items, books, toys, makeup, skincare, etc. from mostly Asia (Hong Kong, China, Korea, Japan, etc.). Recently there are a few ladies on the group selling luxury brand products like Dior, Chanel, Estée Lauder, Tom Ford, Shiseido, Dermalogica, etc. with good discount rates like 20-30% off. Sometimes even crazy discounts like 70% off specific items.
I ordered this back in mid-October when the set wasn’t even for sale yet. The lady was so kind to even help me order a kit set to turn the clutch into a crossbody bag all the way from China! I am still waiting for that to come. So this set is RRP$308, and I got it for $251 which is over $50 in savings!
What I got
This is the Dior Rouge Golden Nights Couture Collection 2020. It contains a total of 6 lipsticks, one in a full-sized bullet lipstick and 5 refillable tubes with caps.
How I find it
First of all, the box packaging is stunning. This is my first ever lipstick coffret from Dior. I have seen previous collections but I couldn’t get myself to spend about $300 for a set of lipsticks. After watching a year (2020) of exploring Dior lip products, I am convinced I love their quality and would actually buy their lipsticks even if it doesn’t come in this beautiful clutch case. To add on top of that, this clutch case can be easily turned into a really clutch or DIY into a crossbody bag with your choice of bag chain. How neat is that?
I haven’t been able to afford a Dior bag, yet, but I intend to save up for one in the future. I literally get a free bag with the lipsticks I bought. A single Dior lipstick costs around $60-$65 and even though 5 of the shades are in refillable cases, they are full – in size. That would make this at least a $360 in value. To turn that into a crossbody bag, you need some crafty hands and specific tools and components. The lady that I got this from was able to help me order in some DIY kits to transform the pretty clutch. I will post an update on my IG when I get my bag transformed.
Ok, back to the lipstick set. It has their signature shade 999 in a normal, creamy formula and also in a matte formula. I am not totally interested in matte lipsticks lately, but since it is Dior, I’m hoping the formula will be somewhat moisturising and non-drying. Shade 999 is a classic blue-toned red that will bring out that white in your teeth and is an amazing festive bright red. Shade 988 Rialto is a dark, plummy red. Shade 481 Hypnotic Matte is a fervent rosewood with a semi-matte finish. Shade 458 Paris is a rosy pink. Finally shade 772 Classic Matte is a pinky brick with a semi-matte finish.
Overall
Loved the details on the clutch bag, the raised metallic motifs as well as the gold embossing makes this clutch bag so festive and pretty. The zipper is a little tight, but opens up fully. Since this was a lipstick set, it does have a handy mirror on the front flap and when you have removed the foam insert, it does carry quite a bit. I can fit my iPhone Xr inside along with a few essential cards (driver license, credit card, eftpos card), a lipstick and my car keys. It’s nice to wear as a clutch if you can’t be bothered turning it into a crossbody bag.
The lipsticks now, unless stated otherwise,m (I.e. matte), they are all creamy with a little bit of creamy shine. The matte shades are also moisturising but a lot less shine on the lips. They all apply evenly and smoothly without skipping. Your lips will be saturated with colour with even coverage. I love all of the shades and finishes, I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase.
